good deal? or rip off?
So i got my cat tested... they said its getting quite a bit hotter in the fron than the back, so its clogged like i figured.. so they said 300$ for a new one. 130$ for the magnaflow and about 170$ to have it put on. does that sound about right? they said its harder to put the cat on my blazer so thats why its 170$ to put it in. since i cant weld i dont have a whole lot of other choices.

sounds outrages!! just go buy the $51.00 cat and thats deliverd to your door. then have the exhaust shop cut off old one and install new one. my shop down here only charges $30 bucks to cut off the old and weld on new one.

Sounds like a rip off to me also, around here they charge $30-75 bucks to weld on a muffler / cat.
$30 just to weld it on, $75 if they have to do any piping.

actually last time i went in to get my cat removed i told him he could keep the cat if he welded on my new one and he didnt charge me anything since i let him keep the cat to sell. u should find another muffler shop for sure. and see if they wont give u a good deal if u let them keep the cat. otherwise keep your cat and sell it for some of your money back.

i payed 350 bucks for every thing when i replaced my cat . i got from the cat all the way to the rear of the truck . this includes rubbers clamps bolts and the other hardware

i asked the guy why the cat its self was 130$ because i was looking at them on line and they were 70-100 he said well you have to get one that fits and the one that fits this blazer is 130.. and as far as welding the cat on is there anything special you have to do besides just weld it..? he made it seem like there was. they also have to fix all my piping from the muffler back because it hits my axle and they said it wouldn't, so im not sure if they will still do it for free if i get the cat done somewhere else, they should tho.
Edit: just called some other exhaust shops and they said its is so much more expensive because the cat is OBD which i guess is thinker metal? harder to install maybe? not sure on that.
