Default Help in Binghamton, NY

My son lives in Binghamton and is driving my 2001 2 door blazer. Even thought he thinks he is treating it like a baby, he is slowly killing what was my baby.
Here is the problem. He told me he was hearing a rumbling noise from under the truck and he needed and inspection. so during the inspection they checked both the rear differential (seal leaking) and the transfer case and both were empty. They filled both and were not sure which one was making the noise. (argh I wish I lived there)
They could start investigating it, but they were not sure what it would cost, a couple hundred $$ to a couple thousand.
I am looking for some help. A good mechanic, a good garage or good backyard tech that might be able to take a look at my truck and give us a little guidance.
I would like to get my truck back some day and rebuild my play toy. Please let me know if you know someone in the area.

If your son is willing to take a drive up 81. There's a shop up here by fort drum that I know the owner who charges relatively cheap to fix vehicles, and nothing to look at it.
