so i changed my front shocks then when i went to start my vehicle (98 LS, 4.3, 4WD, 2 door, 122,000 miles) it was dead, no clicking or anything, guages dont even move...any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

 

Is all power lost: headlights, interior dome lights, brake lights, dash red lights at key on, radio? What is the battery resting voltage at the battery terminals? Same question at key on?

Okay dash lites were on when turned key to start they went out, So heres what i did figured i would check the battery so i got a jump and it started figured it was the battery so went while it was running and got a new battery changed it out and it started right up got home and 2 hrs later was nothing, got all kinds of dash lites and guages working till i turn to start and everything goes out lites come back on when letting up

 

Make sure that you battery connections are clean and tight

Check the battery ground connection to the frame

Get a voltmeter on the battery terminals:

1. What is the resting voltage, key off?
2. Same at key on?
3. Same when key is moved to start?

cleaned battery connections, tried it when it is dark...headlights dont dim, dome light dont dim, dash lites go out except seat belt, abs, let up and all lights come back bright, radio works....was going to try the jumping thing again but neighbor aint home, have it on charger and showing 14.5 volts

 

so i tried to jump it and nothing, guy helping said it was the alternator

 

okay heres where i am....tried this morning after charging all night and nothing so i figured what the heck so i tapped the starter and it started...shut it off and hour later nothing so i tapped it again and started up....figureing the starter is bad
