Default How Healthy is Your Blazer?

Hey Guys,

I hear a lot about how much Blazers need maintenance, and I hear people even say they won't buy a Blazer again. So, I wanted to ask the following questions:

1. Bought new?
2. What year?
3. 2 dr, 4dr
4. 4X2, 4X4
5. Synthetic motor oil?
6. How many miles between changes?
7. How many rebuilds or replaced engines? How many miles?
8. How many rebuilds or replaced transmissions? How many miles?
9. Do you do your own maintenance? How much?
10. Please describe how much maintenance you have to do and whether or not you think your Blazer is worth maintaining.

Mine:
1. Yes
2. 1998
3. 4dr
4. 4X4
5. Synthetic
6. 2,500
7. 0, 145k
8. 0, 145k
9. Yes, everything except A/C and trans rebuild.
10. I rarely have to do any maintenance to my Blazer, all of my replacement parts are either AC Delco or Napa. This vehicle was bought to replace a Cherokee that had many problems. I am very satisfied with the cost of ownership of this Blazer. The only major maintenance has been the intake manifold gasket. And the most expensive was replacing the A/C (pretty much all GM A/C's from the 90's die, in my experience.)

Regards,

Thomas

3. 2 dr
4. 4X2
5. Synthetic Oil
6. 3,000
7. 0,128k
8. Not sure.
9. Yes.
10. All I have had to do was coolant flush, Oil changes, and machined my rear rotors. Spark plugs are almost brand new. Needs a new spider injector, and heater core. That's it. (knock on wood lol) Other than that, it's been very reliable.
I do have to be honest, I probably won't buy another Blazer, though. I love the truck, but I will want to buy something different if I got rid of it.

7. at 162xxx i put a motor in with only 78xxx
8. tranny rebuilt at the same time
9. atleast involved in all maintnance doing most myself

but i do have to say motor and tranny have always worked, best power plant and drive trane i have ever had. this motor will always start no matter how much i beat on it. even if i did replace the original, but that went 4 weeks after buying so it wasnt my beatings
if i could list everything that was replaced on my truck noone would say that it was worth it. but well cant stop now its an addiction, and one that isnt to unhealthy comparitively. this truck has me always broke, but i love it.

5. Yes
6. Haven't had the chance yet
7. No rebuilds
8. No rebuilds
9. Depends on the maintenance
10. Done spark plugs, water pump, some other tune ups. after owning a 4dr sedan, I feel like its worth maintaining. I would like one day to gut it and totally rebuild it from the ground up, but the little kincks I've run into are only because of the crappy owner before me.

5. Synthetic 10w-30
6. 3,000-3,500
7. 0 - 38k
8. 0 - 38k
9. Most of it. I change my oil and do what I can. If I'm not sure how to do something I consult here or go to Autozone and thumb through a repair manual to see how involved it is. I'm not too stubborn to admit that there are somethings I don't need to screw with.
10. Besides oil changes, and replacing the gas cap, the only thing I've done is I had to replace the radiator, and while I was there I put on new upper and lower hoses.

Overall, I do not regret buying my Blazer. Its exactly what I wanted- SUV that didn't look like EVERY other SUV on the road. When I sell it, if it's a matter of wanting something diffrent then no, I wouldn't get another obviously. But if I HAD to sell it and found another one for cheap that was the best option for me, I wouldn't be against buying.

10. Any major maintenance, I take it to my mechanic. Since buying the Blazer, I haven't had any major issues with it. My Blazer is worth maintaining.

1. Bought used five months ago.
2. 1989
3. 2 dr
4. 4X4
5. Synthetic
6. I normally change it every 2,500-3,000 miles haven't driven it quite that much since I bought it.
7. Last owner rebuilt the engine around 100k miles, it now has just over 116k miles on it, so about 16k miles on rebuilt engine.
8. Don't know if the transmission has been rebuilt, don't think so.
9. I do minor maintenance, but I've been doing more than normal because why pay so much when I could do something simple. I replaced the fuel tank and fuel pump. Anything huge I have the mechanic do.
10. I haven't had to do a whole lot, mainly minor stuff. So far its worth it but I've only had it for five months. My last truck (a '91 Dodge Dakota) lasted me 5 years and around 90k miles with multiple trips from the west coast to east coast and back.
