Sure, lots of people have gotten duds. So have Ford owners, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc. Every vehicle manufacturer makes duds, it's a fact. When I picked out my Jimmy, brand new on the lot, you're suggesting that if I had picked the one right beside it, I'd be a thrilled GM vehicle owner. Well that is reason alone to "boohoo" an entire brand. Since when is QC (Quality Control) supposed to mean "Quality Crapshoot"? Again, a hundred years and millions of vehicles and this is what we should expect? People have gotten more angry at McDonalds for only putting a single patty in their Big Mac...but when we buy a new multi-thousand dollar vehicle we shouldn't expect better? Why, after purchasing a vehicle new, babying it and performing most maintenance myself should it should be "my fault" that I got a dud. It should be the manufacturer willing and ready to come to the table and say "oooh, ouch....yes that's NOT good for our reputation....we'll help you out with that". Rather, we get "so sorry you're past the warranty...some are better than others and you got a bad one...would you like to buy another?" As if that's going to happen... |
Well, that is the entire point of a warranty, after all. Nothing is perfect, did you ever notice that?
If you're so unhappy with your vehicle, you should park it and walk everywhere. Oh wait, your shoes would probably wear out... that must be a defect in the shoe manufacturer, they should be put out of business too. Wait, haven't people been wearing shoes for THOUSANDS of years? Yup, shoes should be absolutely perfect now too, so that you only ever buy one pair and they last your lifetime. Your argument makes no sense at all... auto manufacturers should make cars that never wear out is basically what I'm getting from that. And yet, if they did make cars that would always go a million plus miles without any issues, nobody would ever buy another car. The company would go out of business. The jobless rate would skyrocket, and we'd be in a whole heap more trouble as an economy than we already are. The manufacturers make vehicles that won't wear out within their warranty period, and if they do, they fix the issues. If you want to be helped with issues after your factory warranty is up, you should have bought an extended warranty. The same thing happens in EVERY SINGLE INDUSTRY in the world. I sell doors. I provide a 5 year warranty on doors. If, after 5 years a customer wants me to warranty their door, I do the exact same thing you're crying about. I politely tell them I can sell them another door, but they are out of their warranty period. Am I an evil person like GM apparently is? I don't think so. Now, on that same analogy, you are suggesting my entire brand should be crapped upon because someone had a bad door outside of warranty, yet their neighbor has a door that's perfectly fine still. Hey, crap happens, nothing is perfect. Quality control means good quality with an acceptible number of duds. It does not mean "we will make sure every single vehicle is perfect and will last forever." Parts wear out, some faster than others. Deal with it. Why are you even on this site if you hate your GM vehicles so much? |
I don't think I've ever said that I expect a vehicle to last forever...nor shoes or anything else.
But I do expect good value for my money. Apparently we have different expectations of good value... You may be content with the list of expected repairs as experienced by dozens of users on this and other forums. I am the opposite and expect better from the manufacturer. And unless customers raise their concerns the quality and value will never improve. I've spent much time here researching and learning how to troubleshoot & perform repairs on this vehicle that I can't afford to pay others to do. The forums are extremely valuable for this, but I've never had to spend this much time on any other vehicle (previous GMs that I've owned & other brands). That seems to be the consensus among many other owners of this vehicle. Some are satisfied with this degree of quality, while myself and others find this degree of quality unacceptable from a long term, experienced manufacturer of any name. |
Which is funny since quality and value DO improve.
Fact is, you got a dud, crap happens, you dump it and move on. Or, in your case, continue crying over it and boo hooing an entire brand. I'm done with this argument now. |
Jeff, it sounds like you purchased a lemon. Every car manufacturer existing today has the possibility of producing a vehicle like yours. GM isn't alone in that. There are several hundred thousand s-series trucks & suv's out there and what you find on this forum and others like it are threads heavily weighted towards repairs. You rarely hear from the people that do not have problems, but they definitely exist.
In my humble opinion, you should have done more to press the issue with GM and/or cut bait before getting to this point where you are so bitter towards anything GM that you so vehemently & openly oppose the entire brand. It is that attitude which doesn't sit well with those of us that either haven't had the problems or have and dealt with them without letting it affect us like it has affected you. |
