Default How to wire relay to high beams?

I've been trying to wire my driving lights into my high beams. I thought that I needed to wire it into the hot wire behind the high beam bulb, however both the blue and purple wires going into the bulb make the relay turn on when either the low beams or highs are on. The only time the relay doesn't have power is when low+high are off. Any ideas?

Here is a diagram for a relay

Pin 87 is for the fog lights
Pin 86 is a ground
Pin 85 goes to your high beam wire
Pin 30 goes to your battery for power

Hope this helps

That's precisely how I wired it. I'm not sure why, but I get a voltage reading on my multimeter from both high beam wires when the low beams are on. Is this normal?

On what Pin are you getting voltage ? Do the fogs shut off when the low beams on ?

I'm getting voltage between 87 pins and ground when either the high beams or low beams are on. When all lights are shut off (no drl's) the 87 pins have no voltage.

Also I don't have the lights on there yet. I'm using a multimeter to check for now.

hmm so that means the lights would stay on then if you always have power at pin 87.

Sounds like the drl is the issue. I think you might have to disable it.

Hmm well I'll try pulling the fuse for DRL's. Its weird because they haven't been working for months... (reason unknown)

So I tried pulling the DRL fuse and I still have the same issue. Both wires leading into the high beam bulb read approx 11v to ground. Is that normal?

Im not familiar with the DRL setup but pulling power from a ground is not normal.

Im sure someone more experienced with the DRL system will come soon.

Has the truck been wired so the low beams come on with the high beams or do you have lows on with no highs on and highs on with no lows on?
