Default hypertech advice

im currently looking into a used hypertech programmer for my 2000 jimmy. found a few in my area, just have one concern. in the adds they all say what years they are for, one says fits 2004-2006 gm suv's with gas engine. another says 96 to 98 would there be any reason this wouldnt work in my 2000? thanks

You MUST make sure that it is unlocked before you buy. To unlock the tuner, the vehicle it was installed on must be returned to stock. The only other way is to send it in to Hypertech and pay to have them unlock it. End result is that you would end up paying more than you would have buying it new from Hypertech (or one of their retailers).

Here is the tuner I used on my old 2000 Bravada:

Hypertech Power Programmer III - 30024 - 1998-2000 GM Trucks & SUVs with the 4.3L/5.0L/5.7L/7.4L V8's

The version that I had stated 1998-2000, but, according to Summit's website it works with all 1996-2000 trucks & suv's with those engines...

im planning on hooking it up when i go to buy it to make sure there is no vin stored. had a friend buy one that was vin locked, now he has an expensive code reader lol. thats good news about the 96 to 00, makes me think the post 2000 would work as well but ill probably go with the earlier model just to be safe. thanks for the quick reply.

You're throwing a pair of loaded dice if you get one that is not designed for your particular year vehicle. Good luck.
