Just went through the lovely process of putting a new pump in.

a few tips to always do....

1) ALWAYS take as much gas out as you can with a pump even before you do anything.

2) Don't forget to put the fuel line snaps on the new pump

I finished my whole repair to find out the fuel lines weren't actually snapped into anything. I forgot to transfer the damn snaps.

IF this ever happens to you, its possible to put the snaps on without dropping your tank again. you go through the rear passenger wheel well with some long skinny arms.

It's not a bad idea to get the tank mounting straps as well. If you live anywhere where they salt the roads, they are probably seized and near rotted through. It's the difference between a 1 hour job and a 4 hour job.

I never understood why people do that. Probably spend more time cleaning up the mess you made inside your truck by cutting it up than it takes to siphon gas out & drop the tank...

I've never had the heart to chop a hole in the floor to do a job that's nearly as easy to do from under the vehicle. I had to replace my tank anyway when I did mine. Darn rust...

Rich knows not to run cheap pumps.

I changed mine in about an hour by jacking up the rear and dropping the spare. 4 door though.

The first time yes.. but as you know, even if you get a delphi or delco pump... they like to eat them, just delphi and delco are like jaw breakers and last a bit longer.

I would put 500$ on once the hole is cut the first time, the second time would be 1/2 the time it would be ATLEAST to do than it would if you dropped the tank.

Did the fuel pump a week ago, had the old one out and the new one in, in about 20 minutes.
And that included removing the pump from the sending unit

or, a nice quick pump change in your driveway, not having to deal with getting the gas out of the tank, unbolting the rear skid plates, unbolting the tank, dropping the tank, trying to fish your arm up there to unhook the fuel lines ect..

Where I, can just cut the sealant with a razor blade, lift up the door I hinged up, and have direct access to the pump... pull the pump, put it back in, put new sealant.. done.
