Default Inaccurate gas gauge

Okay, so on a normal day driving to school, I figured I went through around 5 gallons of gas, traveling an approx. 26 mile trip. 13 miles both ways. Usually on a full tank, my needle would go from past full (When the tank is full..) to about a gallon under 3/4. Yesterday I filled my truck up after work, drove it home and didn't drive it again after that. So today I drove to school and on the way back home decided to go to the gas station again and refill my truck up. I never bothered calculating my mpg on an average trip, but I decided to skup the math and go right into the hands on experiment. My needle was past full, and now, like usual on my first trip to school and back of the week, is now just under 3/4. Expecting to put 5-6 gallons in it, it hits 2 and stops. I thought no way did I only use 2 gallons of gas, but, it's true. I only use 2 gallons of gas on a 26 mile trip. And that is, driving like an idiot. Passing people up, being a nascar driver, driving the fast lane like it's drag racing, even maxing out at 96 twice. But 2 miles? That's 13 mpg. Not bad at all. I used to think I had 10 or less mpg. So now instead of blaming my truck for its love to burn fuel, I'll just blame the old inaccurate gas gauge.

One other thing that let me know it obviously IS inaccurate is when I'm redlined on gas, I actually still have 8 gallons or more left in the truck.. but I just put an AEM cold air intake in the truck, which supposidly gives better gas mileage. Too bad I didn't see what the mpg was with my factory intake. Probably not much of a difference anyway

5 gallons for 26 miles is terribly low. 13mpg sound much more reasonable. thats about where i was at and after CAI, muffler, and high-flow cat, im at around 15.5-16... and yes the gas gauge is inaccurate, the low fuel light can be on and when i fill up it will only get about 13gal in it.

By the end of the week after driving to college on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and work 4-5 times which is less than a mile away, I put 12 gallons in it by Friday night, and that's when my needle is on red.
I've never actually had my low fuel light go on. Maybe an extra gallon and it would go on.

And what kind of high-flow cat do you have? After I buy a new exhaust I'm gonna put a new cat in.

Yeah, I was looking at the magnaflows, but there's so many different types. I don't even know which one is the best, or which one goes best with whichever muffler.
