I figure since out trucks weigh a good 5000lbs is there a way that we can make our trucks weigh less to get better gas millage? For example. Bits that can be taken off that arent needed?

I was thinking about this myself a while ago and ended up just putting it all back in. I took out my rear seats, jack, and spare tire. I ended up having company visit and put one seat back in. Too much of a pain to take in and out so I put them back in and kept them there. Plus, my truck looked silly with a tire carrier and no spare. I could have taken the carrier off, but that would require bodywork to fill the mounting holes and I'm not up for that.
Best thing you can do (which I have done prior to my intake) is to take it easy on the gas pedal. I got 21mpg with mixed city/highway driving by not being on the gas too much. Easy starts, don't speed up just to slow down again, coast downhill, etc. Other members have gotten up to 24mpg highway by getting up to speed and setting the cruise at 55.
Post up with any info you're able to gather on your own or tricks you may have found that work!

Yeah. You can take off the unneded stuff. If you never use the back seats, you can take them out. Roof rack too. If you want to go to extremes, you can replace all the seats with racing seats or whatever. What yo do is up to you.
Taking out the seats will only reduce the weight about 100-200lbs.

well whats the weight to mpg ratio? Isnt it something like 100 lbs = 1-4mpg?

I don't think so. I would think you may get 1-2MPG more if you took out 500lbs.

I determined many moons ago not to buy a truck and then complain about the mpg.
5,000 pounds? Good grief, what do you carry in your's? Even a 4dr. automatic 4wd should top out no more than ~4,300.

That's with the roof rack, grille guard, extra lights, and subwoofer + amps and a full tank of gas...
