Default Locking lug key

Hi
I am new to the forum.

I just purchased a 1996 Blazer for my daughter. 2 door, 4 wheel drive with 87k in good condition. Hope this question isnt stupid, but I cant find an answer anywhere else.

There is a locking lug nut on the spare tire, which is mounted to the swing arm at the back of the truck. I thought the ignition key would unlock this but it gets stuck. I need to find another key or find a way to remove it. It definitely uses a real key.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you need a key like a socket for the lug nut you can go to a tire shop like Pep-boys and they can order you the specific "key" you need. If your talking about an actual key, IMO I would just call the dealer and take that route, rather than going to this and that store looking for one.

I'm pretty sure that if it's the factory key lug lock it should be the ignition key, as long as the ignition key is original. My guess is that it's probably seized. Shoot some PB blaster or other penetrating lubricant into the mechanism a few times as well as onto the thread side if you can, and gently wiggle it back and forth to see if you can free it.

My blazer had one of these and El is correct, the original key is the only one that will work. If its an add a key that you had cut from somewhere other than a dealer then it probably wont work.

Mine ended up seizing and I needed to take a pair of pliers to it. Broke it down to smaller bits and then was eventually able to get a pair of vice grips on it and smack it with a hammer to break the seal.

Yup, if it's the original lock it's set up to use the ignition key.
I had to soak mine with Liquid Wrench several times over a couple days,
and whack it a few times with a hammer to loosen it up.
Then I swapped it out for one with a socket type key.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I think it is the ignition key. Time to lube it up and get that thing off of there !
