Nice rant.
a. It never was that you thought it was
b. Good idea and good luck
c. A K is always a better choice for what you visualize. Although S series make cuter mini-monster trucks.

First Blazer I ever rode in was a guy I used to work with bought new. He had all kindsa plans for what he was gonna do with it including getting a snow blade. One day it snowed like hell while at work and I asked him to drop me off at my inlaws. It was about 6 inches of snow. The driveway was one side of a hill, the lower edge had about an eight inch drop off. Well, when his front wheel slid off that edge I thought he was gonna crap his pants. He whined about it for five minutes and actually made a plan on how to back off.

I grew up on a farm with tractors and trucks. And I got my fill of Offroading then. Never saw the reason to have those farm vehicles in the suburbs.

If you do the 2" body lift, and look at the new 2.5" suspension lift kit that's out there, then go with 31's i think you'll be where you want. The body lift does give you a whole lot more room for exhaust mods and just working underneath the truck in general. Every truck has it's weak points, the blazer's being all the cramming done by the engineers to keep ride height low, leading to the IFS system, remote oil lines, all the extra work it took for that front axle to be there.

If you're ambitious a solid axle swap would do a lot for the truck. The 4.3/700r4 combo works very well, and the S-trucks have decent frames. A solid front axle would make it a very well rounded blazer

I just checked yours out and you need to put together a build thread! lol

The blazer can be definitely made pretty off road worthy, but if its the true rugged TRUCK that you want then go with a K5. And turning a s-series into a real play toy can get real expensive real quick.

Not entirely sure what's going on here as I stopped reading the OP after 2 lines. (punctuation man, use it!)

However, the S series trucks are very cool stock, and pretty capable. With my first gen S15 Jimmy, I was doing stuff my buddy in his Jeep Wrangler couldn't do. Sure they have weak spots, but every single vehicle ever made has them as well, just in different spots.
