Default My 98 Blazer Maintenance List

This is just a list of things that I have fixed, gotten fixed, have yet to fix, future modifications, things I have noticed, and just plain annoyances for my 98 Blazer 4dr 4x4 since I have owned it. Somethings common, obvious, or just unknown. If anybody has any suggestions about anything just feel free to post.

Thanks!

Needs To Be Replaced:

-Rear Bumper Step Pads- Clips broke when installing spare tire hoist

-Door Panels- Rattle, Some broke

-Driver Mirror- Shakes When Driving, Is Heated

-CD Player- Skips, Sometimes Pops- Needs To Work With Tape Player

-Trunk Cover- Doesn’t Reel Up

-Liftgate + Glass Hydraulics- Seem weak, lower if opened long

-Passenger Electric Lumbar Cover- Broke with previous owner

-Catalytic Converter- Bad, Strong Smell

-A/C Compressor- Leaks, Bad Bearings

-Multiple LEDs in Dash

-Other misc. Interior Panels that rattle

-Battery (Can’t tell what year, either 11 or 01)- Died at home a few times

-Possibly new Bumper (rusty)

Needs To Be/Can Be Done (Now):

-Reinstall Spare tire onto new winch

-Buff Seats with crimps in them

-Tighten up fog lights (shakey when driving)

-Adjust rear window to stop rattle

Obscure Problems/Annoyances/Things To Look Into/Future DIY:

-Driver Door Handle not fully secured

-Squeaky Passenger door

-Strong Exhaust Smell, Catalytic Converter Bad

-Sunroof Shade Sometimes Opens A Bit When Taking Off

-Exhaust Rattle

-Driver Seat Belt Reel Weak

-Creaking from passenger side front when turning

-Slow Idle Speed (could be a good thing, slow crawl)

-Some clap-like noise from engine. Maybe Valve noise

-Front Wiper speeds do weird things, often no change in speed.

-Express down window button hard to use

-Window motors slow, may be going, rear don’t got at same rate, Neither do front

-Hot air flow near gas pedal, noticed when climate control was off (no air)

Have Checked/Looked Into (By Shop or Friend Mechanic):

-Ride Height (Sits Low, New Shocks Though)

-Rear Diff (G80)- if it locks

-4x4 (3 Button 4x4 lights up sometimes)

-Body Mounts

-Rear Windshield wiper assembly (sometimes stops halfway through wipe and gets “stuck” until moved by hand)

-ABS (Sometimes engages when stopping, yet no ABS light)

-Rear End Hop

-If Trans Is Slipping

-Sides dip when steering wheel is full left or right.

-Rubbing when wheels are turned full left/right, stops truck (in idle)

-Moderately hard first shift- Don’t know if this is how it’s supposed to be

General Shop Work To Be Done:

-Front End Alignment

-Regular Oil Changes Exactly > 3,000 Miles Or Warranty Void, Must Save Every Receipt

Improvements/Modifications To Do:

-Mud Flaps - One’s that say Blazer on them

-Heated seats- only if can get original buttons

-Paint Frame with Black Rustoleum

-Paint Luggage Rack

-Nerf Bars- Chrome ones look nice

-Gibson Exhaust System

-Train Horn

-WeatherTech

-Remote start that uses original keyfob

-Buff Wheels

Research:

-If there are passenger heated mirrors

-Tow/Haul Button Modification (maybe only possible on newer years)

-What my engine’s code is

-DTRL & Automatic light shut off Modification (maybe only possible on newer years)

-What Came With Premium Suspension

-If there Is a cruise control light in the dash

Whats Been Done:

At the Shop:

-Replaced 4.3 (x2)
1st- Previous Owners didn’t change oil, chunks of crud in block, blew a rod
2nd from an s10, no idea, spun a bearing

-Replaced Fuel Pump

-Replaced Radiator (with rebuilt Jasper 4.3)

-Flushed Heater Core

-Replaced O2 Sensor

Replaced at Shop as Extra/Complementary/Not Main Reason For Going To Shop

-U-Joint

-Mirror control fixed at Dealership before receiving truck

-Transmission Seal, 1st leaked when truck came back after getting 2nd 4.3

-Fixed Gear Selector LCD, Shop accidently cut wires in transmission when installing 3rd 4.3

DIY

-Replaced spare tire winch- didn’t fit 100%, 2 less screws

-Replaced all 6 speakers
Right was blown, back didn’t work, tweeters worked
Had to splice some wires with connectors to fit back speakers, possibly tweeters too (can’t remember tweeters)

-Replaced Speaker Grills

-Replaced Defrost Vent (with sensor hole) (originally tan, painted black)

-Replaced Visor Mirror Covers- drilled one so it would let the button poke through

-Replaced Cigarette Lighter

-Replaced Fuse Box Cover (Interior or one in engine compartment, Can’t remember)

-Replaced CD Holder

-Replaced Rear window light sensor button

-Added Trailer Wire Cap

-Replaced some door panel clips

-Replaced Gas Cap

-Re-glued Weather Stripping

-Attempted To Re-Glue driver door panel with J-B weld

-Replaced Front Wiper Blades

Things Not To Do:

-Install a Brush Guard- Can’t have tow hooks- Used to tow Blazer home with Suburban when 2nd engine seized

-Buy Cheap Wiper Blades- Get the best

Parts Holding For Later Use:

-Shocks

-License Plate light fixture, only replaced a fuse

Parts Bought That Don’t Fit/Work:

-Bose speakers (x2) - Too big, 1 blown, actually subwoofers

-Rear Wiper Blade- Won’t fit on wiper arm

Accidents:

-Lady ran into drivers door, bent back but not damage Blazer, Dented lady’s bumper, insurance claimed no fault.
