Hello trying replace a bottom ball joint on my 2000 blazer I have tried two different sizes pickle forks one was to small and got another from harbor freight and it seems way to big I no theres different sizes any one happen no what size the best to use I no there a 15/16 but I beat on it for hours on the side where it goes into the knuckle and no luck this is one I got and says part 63420 but not sure what one get but not sure it don't say what size the fork space is but all I no it's stuck in place
When I've had to remove the lower ball joint stud, I've been successful with the technique of loosening the stud nut but not removing it completely, leaving it so that it is at the end of the stud, then striking the lower end of the steering knuckle near the stud with a large hammer to break it free. The nut on the stud keeps the lower control arm restrained.
But if that doesn't work, you may need a tool like this: harborfreight.com/automotive/auto-shop-tools/3-4-quarter-inch-forged-ball-joint-separator-99849.html To use it, you apply more and more force and it should break free. If not with force applied, then strike the bottom of the steering knuckle near the stud with a hammer.
You should be able to find a loaner tool at a local autoparts store if you don't want to buy one.
