Hey everyone my name is Cameron. I have a 98 blazer and I'm wanting to use it as my first project car. I have a couple Ideas in mind like an engine swap and lifting it and stuff like that. I have a general knowledge of cars but I just dont know where I should start. The current engine has a cracked block (reasoning for me wanting to engine swap). With it being my first project i want to kind stay under 10,000 so I'm just looking for some recommendations on where to start and what I should put in it.

As for where to start, I'd ask yourself what you hope to do with this when it is done and let the answer guide your path.

Popular mods tend to fall into these categories from what I've seen:

• Suspension lifts
• Body lifts (with or without a suspension lift)
• Engine swaps to LS motors (some require a body lift)
• Adding an outside, rear spare tire carrier
• Larger cargo racks on the top
• Light bars
• Winches and upgrades front bumpers.

If you want to keep it simple, and sellable, you might put back in a 4.3L but one rebuilt in a high quality way and then a suspension lift. For the Suspension lift you can go with the Rough Country 2.5" suspension lift or not drop the independent front suspension/diff (IFS) and only do a torsion-bar tweak with larger rear shackles. I did the later but did install the RC upper control arms. These lifts will allow you to run at least 30" tires but also, with a bit of minor trimming 31s.

 

In what way could the 4.3L be done in high quality?

 

Hey guys, im needing some help with my 1999 chevy blazer 4.3L 4x4. I had done a head job and it ran after that that but then it just shut off out of no where. All of the ingtition is brand new and i know it works for sure. i have no fuel pressure or spark...Any ideas? Been at it for a while and still cant find the problem. Any ideas of what i could do to find the problem? Thanks guys, Dylan99

 

You could balance all the pistons and rods, check that the volumes of all of the combustion chambers are the same, port the heads, intake and install headers. You could also install upgrades like roller rockers.

I think it is the member Error_401 (404?) who is doing all that to his 4.3.

 

I am sure it is everyone's dream to think about the V8 swap, but unless you have lots of time, money and extensive facilities suxh as garage with lift and a lot of special tools, it is more realistic to look at the 4.3L V6 option. Under builds, look at the Error_401 write up and you will be inspired.

I believe it has a "mouse build" in the title, he is in deep with his engine build, I would use it as a blueprint if I was to rebuild.

Offroading?
More a show project?
What do you want it to do after you have it finished?

This will also determine the allocation of funds into the project.
