Any ideas why this would be in my engine and what it is for? A normal three prong plug. I just noticed it today. The picture with my hand is where it vanishes to the point that I can't see it anymore right underneath the brake fluid reservoir.

Haha, well I'll be damned. I always wanted to put one in my vehicle but never wanted to pay the price. Living in Wisconsin and all it's not a bad idea. Did these come stock? (new blazer owner, only owned for about a month now).

 

prob the previous owner installed it i dont know if a blazer had them stock

It was an option when ordering a vehicle, but a lot of them were dealer add-ons.

 

mine has it and its really nice to start it and have heat without waiting for it to warm up.

 

Up here in parts of alaska you would be a fool to NOT have one! -Brrr! Like previous post's said its nice to have especially on those really cold days!

 

i wont lie i laughed alittle when i read your title lol but as u know its a block heater ....i belive it was an option you could get from the factory but alot of them where put in after ...i live in norther MN ...and like the guy from alaska said...ur be a fool not to have one lol specialy living up north

 

Not to scare you .. but make sure the wiring is good ....

This happened to my brother's Duramax last Christmas Eve. He plugged it in at the shop, went out on the road, then got a call from the mechanics that the truck was in flames!

Insurance guy said it was the block heater ... but that's like asking a doctor how much gear oil to put in your rear end ............. err .... differential.

I think it was more than likely just an internally-shorted battery, which then exploded & caught fire.

Keep an eye on the cord either way!
