Default which oil filter adapter to use

after research and consideration, i am going to eliminate the oil filter cooler. My problem is the adapters. The GM Part Number: 14081300, on one site shows a threaded nipple and says it wont fit my 98 4x4. another site shows what looks like a sleeve. Am i missing something here. Some sites say you can screw the adapter out of the existing cooler on a 2 wheel drive, can you do this with the 4x4. Do these adapters work or is there something else i have to use?
Thanks

I used the 14081300 on my 2000 and it worked perfectly. Threaded directly into the block. I can't imagine that your 98 is much different.

It looks like the first picture. I have no idea what that thing in the second picture is supposed to be.
