Default OK, I've done it. Booked her in at last!

After the tranny guy quoting $3,000 to overhaul the transmission, I opted to buy the used box from the Chevy guys. $1140 + GST. Transmission & torque converter.

The box is from a 2002 Blazer (mine's a '99) with 163,000km. Truck got rear ended - just folded in the bumper, tailgate (glass was still intact!) & rear side panels. Rear end was lifted slightly. No evidence of any axle or suspension damage. Insurance simply wrote it off. They had taken it for a test drive to check the mechanicals before stripping it.

Goes in next Wednesday.

are they throwing in a warranty with it? (even 30 days / 1500KM)
If so, looks like we can expect some "it's under warranty" trail work in the near future right?

Glad to hear you are getting this knocked out. Hope the wife isn't too unhappy

Good luck Ken! As I said over on GMTF, you might want to inquire what it would cost to have them do the valve body updates and toss a shift kit at it, maybe with the corvette servos, etc. It is easier to do these things with the transmission out that it is with it in.

God luck with it. The nice thing about the '02 trannys is that GM updated them and called them a 4L65E. Stronger parts all over in it. It should last for a while.

Any gearbox repairs or mods are sent out to be done so if they can do this it'll end up with the same guys I visited the other day & all they want to do is rebuild the whole thing in case of any comeback.

Thanks for the support guys & Kyle, I'll be seeing them on Monday anyway so I'll bounce this off them & get their response. Maybe . . .

Wish I lived in the States!

Thanks for the info & advice guys but . . . . . I live in New Zealand - remember - the land of NO Blazers? (thanks to Holden) LOL

Problem with mods & upgrades is that because some enterprising car yard found & started importing Blazers there was a flurry of activity then the fuel crunch came & killed it off. No more Blazer coming in.

So, now we have a situation. When approaching the Chevy guys or the tranny guys, oh yes, even the off road specialists (I enquired about doing a lift) any of 3 things happen.

1. Can't be done, Why & doesn't need to be done.

2. You believe those forums?

3. They see $$$$$$$$$

It seems there is a lack of interest in the humble Blazer. Certainly at the Chevy specialists where they seem to think the Blazer is an irritation & will soon be dead anyway (thanks to no more coming in & poor parts supply). HOWEVER, bring in a fullsize truck & they're all clued up, very knowledgable & interested.

Bummer!
