Is parting out worthwhile?

Default Is parting out worthwhile?

My 2001 4WD ZR2 went into the shop to get the intake manifold gaskets replaced, and ended up with a cracked block. So now I need to decide if I should get a rebuilt motor and keep chugging along, or what. Cant really get good trade in value with a cracked block (plus it has 220K miles anyway!), so wondering if it makes sense to try and sell it off piece by piece. I mean, it has a never-been-used original spare tire hanging on the back, Bose stereo, brand spanking new front grill parts (a truck backed into me a few weeks ago and cracked it, and I JUST got it all replaced!), everything else is still in decent shape.

Anyone try to go this route and find it more trouble than it's worth?

Get a used motor off of craigslist or something, and drop it in?

Good time for a v8 swap lol. If you try to part it out, it will take time but you never know. You can throw it on craigslist and someone might want the whole thing. If the tranny hasn't been replaced or had service kept up with, then that would be my biggest concern, throwing a new motor in and having the tranny shell out lol.

Parting out a blazer will take a long time. The good stuff will sell fast, and you'll be left with a big pile of stuff/picked apart truck that isn't worth much. Used 4.3 engines are pretty easy to find and don't generally sell for much. If you want to get rid of it, it would be better to sell whole with or without a working engine.

dont part it out,buy a motor and be done with it. You can get a good runner for $300-500 all the time. zr2's are a great thign to have. dont waste it being a part out.

Thanks for the input, that makes sense. I am going ahead with the drop in motor, hopefully will make it another year at least!
