So 9005's are the high beam light size then? I thought it was the other way around..

They'll work, the bulbs are identical... in the halogen world, the 9006's for the low beams have a little "cap" on them so they don't throw light out as far as the high beams... but the HID's don't have said "cap". And I know that 9006's will fit in the 9005's place because a member here (I forget who) put high beam bulbs in his lows to make'em brighter.

I'm going to wait until dark to take pictures of the lights from outside the truck... for some reason that's the only thing I didn't do last night. And then I'll do the whole "how to" here in my thread.

For anyone who missed this...

Install pics to come!

When I got my HID's from them I ordered 9005 bulbs. Those are the high beam bulbs and seeing as I have projectors, they use the high beam bulbs as the low beams with a "cut-off" plate in the projector so you don't blind people.

Yeah wow, I read that again and I totally muddled that up lmao.

9005=high beam 9006=low beam

I know that the 9005's will fit in the 9006's place in the headlight housing. That being said, if someone wants to purchase these 9005's for their low beams, it'd still work since the 9006's don't have a "cut off" plate on them.

OKAY, I've got the pics and here I go.

After getting the kit I obviously unpackaged it and tore my front end apart. Headlights, grilled all gone. I then proceeded to find a good spot to mount my balasts, and after sticking them together with industrial strength double sided tape, stuck them to the rad support right behind the signal lights.

Like so! Notice the air intake for the airbox just above, this is on the driver side (pass side if you're upside down *cough*kiwi*cough*)

Then mocking that up and putting my grille on temporarily (just the clips on the drivers side, enough to see that my signal light would clear the balast) I drilled a single hole as behind the balasts allowing me to pull a zip tie out through that oval shaped hole to the left of them.

I then popped the grille back on and this is what I ended up with:
VOILA! Two balasts snuggled nicely behind my grille.

Plug everything in that corresponds, don't mix the highs and lows up and you get this:

And this:

And this:

important*NOTE*important
The High Beam HID system disabled my Daytime Running Lights. If you're a fellow Canuck, you know that having Daytime Running Lights that illuminate automatically when the vehicle is running and in gear (parking brake off in my case [5spd]) are lawfully required. That is why in the "action shots" you don't see any high beams, that's because I removed the 9005 system and have since put them up for sale. I'm running the stock halogens until later this week when I get the same bulbs my dad has in his Sierra for my high beams... they won't be as bight as the HID's, but at least the colour matches lol.

That is not 100% accurate. The 9005 bulb is smaller in diameter where the o-ring goes than the 9006 bulb. Also, the tabs are different. To do the 9005 Bulb Mod you have to modify the bulb or the housing as well as put the 9006 o-ring around the base of the 9005 bulb to seal it up and center the bulb.

Okay, pictures ready, here I go.

Saturday and Sunday was productive.

Saturday:
-completed MacGyver Sub mount.

Basically I took an aluminum flat bar we had lying around, with a small sheet, some rivets, a velcro strap, snowmobile crate-straps, and the mounts provided from Fusion and got this:

Flat bar + aluminum Plate + straps =

"This is how it goes together"

Riveting

All done:

And the sub awaiting install:

SUNDAY

First thing I did was put my sub in my truck after pulling it out of hibernation on my bedroom floor.

I put my MacGyver mount in:

And plugged strapped the sub down, she ain't goin nowheres now!

I then proceeded to perform the cermonial "Spring's here " bump lol.

Then I tore my front end apart, what fun that was, seems my clips rusted due to me pulling the grille off to put the clear corners in. A bit of grease and it should be okay though.

Anyway, I found a place to mount the balasts: These are both high and low beams, the high beams were subsequently removed about half an hour later.

Just behind I drilled a hole going into that "Vertical Hollow Part" and brought a zip-tie through. I stuck them to the support with double sided tape, and I stuck the balasts together with double sided tape. I tie wrapped them to the support and put the grille back in place. Fit perfect!

I started the truck up and switched the lights on and my heart hit the ground when I saw the highbeams or lows beams weren't working... I looked at the instruction page again and it said to "invert the polarity". I did and BINGO... worked fine. I turned the lights off, chocked a wheel, pulle the parking brake off (5spd) and walked up front to see if my DRL's were still working... ****!
I frantically posted a question here, but then after talking to my dad about it, I just yanked them out and decided I'd go back to halogen for now. After talking to Michelle, I'm SOL as far as DRL's and HID's combined, so I've ordered some 9005 halogen bulbs out of a 2007 Sierra (ie my dad's truck) seeing as they're super bright (not HID bright but it'll do) and will match the colour pretty closely. This way I'll retain the legality of my truck lol.

For those of you who are out of the loop, the 9005 HID kit is currently for sale in the classifieds section.

5000k 9006 lowbeams
