Default people without shop manuals..

.. should be watching ebay every couple weeks.

I just picked up a shop and electrical manual for my tbird for 15 bucks shipping included.
- there are many others same price for birds and fox body cars

They were 45 bucks, the set for many years. Which is a good deal anyway but I never had electrical problems {part luck, part Ford's engineering} and soaked up enough off forums to handle the mechanical side

Part of that is due to the increasing scrap rate and shops dumping old manuals to brokers, so your results may vary.. however the point is you never know when the price will drop on the S series, and especially the K series. Need to be ready to act.

Example.. here is guy that offers my tbird set for 10 bucks.. check out the price for 97 -without- the electrical. Still a great price.

Car shows with swap meets can also be a great source for FSMs. I picked up 10 different assorted C/K & R/V FSM sections from the early 80's to the early 90's for $2 each a few years ago to add to the bookshelf. They wanted $5 for the one I wanted and I offered $20 for everything they had. I needed the one for the electrical in my donor '90 'Burb for when I start tearing that thing apart to swap over the electrical, motor, trans, A/C, etc into my K5.

Yeah... I got my 1984 - 1989 Mitchells EVTM for Ford .. 6 inches thick... for $20 at a car show stand. Dang.. that thing came in SO handy. For my hobby saved me hundreds of bucks and untold hours of screwing around when I did my Mustang and Merkur EFI transplants.
