I was thinkin, even though my blazers down and out for the time being, should i give myself a little project, and take off the valve covers and get them powder coated for my new engine im hopefully getting soon?

I was thinking of a dark navy blue the color of my car.

Powder coating involves a lot of heat, I'm not sure the plastic covers can handle that much heat, let alone the chemical cleaning process etc.
I know they're on the heads but baking in an oven & the chemicals used to clean/pre treat may be a totally different animal they weren't intended for.
I know that when the aluminum & stainless steel we get powder coated at a buisness next door come out of the oven after powder coating they don't touch them for a good 30 mins because they're so hot, they just let them hang & cool.
Sure some of that is a curing process but trust me - they're freaking hot! lol You feel the heat from 10' away radiating off the rack of parts.

You could always clean up the stock plastic ones and maybe paint them Blue.

Powder Coating is a bad thing to do to the engine. The powder coating will make your engine run hotter than normal. It traps the heat. I know this is a big no no to do to bikes, but they are mostly air cooled engines. Im sure it has the same effect though on liquid cooled engines.

Im not too sure if the valve covers would effect much if they were powder coated. Probally not, but I dont think I would try it unless I was building a show car. Traping heat in a engine isnt a good thing.

Yeah I still work on bikes that have their engines powder coated. They run great but Im sure the life of the engine is being cut short due to the excessive heat. Just go with chrome and you wont have any issues at all and they look way better anyways. lol
