There are quite a few people that have done it. Just do a search for powder coating. They turn out really nice and last fairly long from what I hear.
I took the cheap road and spray painted mine. They turned out really nice, but how long they has has yet to be seen. I'm impressed so far though. No dings or scratches even after being forced up on the curb by an idiot driver. |

Yeah, that's my truck in the sig.
Click on my sig for my build thread. It details the process (with pics) on how I painted them and what I used (plain old primer and spray paint). There is a contents list in the first post of the build thread so you can skip right to where I painted my rims. |

Thanks man. You can't really go wrong for a mod like that under $20. For added protection you could put a few coats of clear onto them. It will definitely prolong the life of the paint job. I opted not to do it since I was going for a flat black look.

yeah i was just thinking that i use clear coat on alot of my acrylic paintings i do and i really dont want them to shine like my paintings.. im wanting that flat look also.. my truck is red now i really would like that flat look on my truck too i want to have it all blacked out.. like gun metal black perhaps.

They make a flat clear coat that would work. The shops around here were out of it at the time I painted mine, so I never ended up clearing them, but it might be something you could look at doing just for that added protection. That way they will be protected but not shiny.

if i can get hold of some jack stands im gonna do mine tomorrow
im also getting new tires soon i wonder if they will potentially scrape them up when changing them out... |
It's possible. You will either want to get them painted ASAP to allow for maximum curing time, or you want to wait until after the tires are on to paint them. If it's a good shop that you're having swap them out tho they shouldn't have a problem changing them without ruining the paint job. They shouldn't normally touch the face of the rims much when changing a tire.

Another member on here: nyzr21019 powdercoated his rims black. And did them himself also. I am getting mine done in the summer also. Here are some pics of his.

Those look great! I love this rims done in black, they look like a completely different rim.
If you get bored after this project you should look into painting your front chrome grill strip red. Quite a few people on here have done it, and I think I would look fantastic on yours. :icon_wink: Then of course you would have to paint the chevy emblem black to match the rims too... :icon_teeth: |

i actually did a set of chrome 18's i sandblasted them first then painted them with a smoked color lasted about a summer which was all i was hoping for
|
Looks really good Brian...nice job! I agree with painting the grille. I painted mine black to match the rims (not sure if you saw that in my build). I left the main chrome piece (I do plan on keeping it even though I don't like chrome, it suits it) but I will be taking the chrome off the top of my bumper piece sooner or later.
When you take the back rims off to paint them you should do your bowtie to match. It makes the truck look a hell of a lot better with a black bowtie. Something so small dresses the truck up nicely. It's held on with 2 bolts. |

Very nice end result! You need to undercoat the frame now and paint the tow hooks to complete the look! :)

We're gunna having you going from project to project for months!! |
Yeah...Brian since you're new you'll learn pretty quick people will keep you going on this forum lol. Almost all my mods were inspired by other rides or by comments people had to my build. It keeps you wanting to do more, thats for sure!

yeah tow hooks are next weekend lol... and perhaps a few other things.. im thinking about painting the chrome part black and my blazer decal on the sides |
De-badge FTW. You should just take them off all together. Makes the truck look sooooo much cleaner IMO.

Yeah..they look good all black IMO. I wouldn't change them. It would be hard anyway to get the lines looking right with these rims. You'd have to be pretty good at taping.

il prob paint the chrome part on the bumper black next weekend and the hooks in the front also. well its not really a "probably" i will be painting them lol im already addicted to this forum and doing stuff to my truck.. the only reason i havent yet is because i been out of the job but now i got a great job so its all gonna come together from now on :) |
What I understood from what he said was painting it like this (excuse my awesome paint skills lol):
The inside of this red line he was thinking would look good red.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...r/rimsedit.jpg |
ahh i c .. yeah it might look cool but im way into the all black look atm
|
Yeah...I agree. I don't think 2 tone red/black rims would look good at all. Not this style anyway. If you wanted to incorporate red into that at all then I'd do a pin stripe around the edge or something.

Are you painting the chrome strip and the bowtie black? Or the chrome strip black and bowtie red?
I think the red bowtie on black would look awesome. It'd really pop out at you. Im just curious, hope Im not coming across as demanding, or trying to tell you what to do. I planned on painting my chrome strip and bowtie black, but after I saw how well the black bowtie popped out on the chrome I had to leave it at that. |
