Those would be pretty expensive to repair without a parts motor, etc., wouldn't they? Do you repair them to resale?

Talking about repair for resale, anyone else think of/are doing buy and sale of vehicles? Buy fix them up at a low cost, sale for profit?

I've had luck with a couple of vehicles, not that I planned on selling the vehicles either. One was a s10 zr2 with 800k+ km on it, profit 400$. And then the wifes old zq8 sonoma was a 1000$ profit(not including maintenance fees, sold for 1000 more then what she originally paid for it).

Ever since then, I've been looking at properties to move out of the apartment, and have a garage.

Looking foward to seeing what happens with your 4wheeler red... how many do you have now? Lol

Oh yeah, easily a few hundred dollars... So far it's only going to cost me about $50

I plan on getting this one up and going and keeping it, and actually selling off one of our other smaller Yamahas, a 250 Timberwolf. Maybe... I might just hang onto it, that silly little thing is a blast to throw around because it's so light, and it's all time 4x4 and darn near unstoppable lol. But no I didn't buy it knowing it needed work with the thoughts of just fixing and flipping it. I kind of enjoy getting it in non riding condition and fixing it myself and then being able to ride it. To me it makes it a lot more enjoyable, more than just buying one outright for 10x's more money lol. Or perhaps I'm just a glutton for punishment...

The thought has certainly crossed my mind, especially since I've been working in a salvage yard for the last 10 years...

I've certainly done it to a few of my personal vehicles, like my old 01 Corolla and even my Blazer. Bought and fixed up, but kept for myself Granted I gave the Corolla away to my mother inlaw, she needed a car at the time, and the Corolla was my 3rd vehicle, so I figured I could do without it lol.

Oh, and 3 This 05 Bruin now, and two other Yamahas, an 04 Bruin and a 98 Timberwolf

And the old amphibious Argo 6x6, but it's currently non operational, so it doesn't count lol

I prefer these older ones. So much more simple and easy to work on. Finding parts can be difficult sometimes, but luckily a lot of older Yamahas seem to share some parts between models.

Made some adapters for putting S10 hubs into a Dana 30. These allow the use of stock S10 hubs and wheels on a SAS Blazer of S10. You can also keep the ABS at each wheel with them.

Pretty soon I'll try and get a pic of the Dana with the adapters installed and wheels in place. You do have to rework how you attach and route your ABS wiring though. Not a big deal but something to be aware of. The ABS sensor wire exits the hub at an angle which complicates it somewhat.

Something else I've been working on is a rotary positioner for accurately drilling hole patterns and being able to weld round projects. It's made from a 60:1 gear reduction box, flywheel for a table and a frame that I'm still working on. So far it's just two axis but I'm hoping to make it three. I'm still on the lookout for a surface mount three jaw chuck and a electric drive so I can power the table.

Got the project ATV fired up finally after getting the clutch issue all sorted out and reassembled. Only to hear a nasty sound coming from the internals and find it burning oil and smoking... Sounded like it was coming from the top end, and I read a lot about these motors developing piston slap. So I drove it (for the first time mind you lol) straight into the garage and started ripping into it, with the help of the wife she wanted to get her hands dirty lol.

Took about an hour of wrenching, pulling some plastic out of the way and what not, and we got the top end pulled off completely.

Found MAJOR scoring on the piston skirts and some markings on the walls of the cylinder. Safe to say that's where the noise was coming from... I can wiggle the piston around in the cylinder an uncomfortable amount, so that was probably contributing to the noise too lol. The oil control rings on the piston also seem like they're not right. Not locked up, but they don't expand out as far as the compression rings, so that might be where some of the oil burning was coming from. That and I'm sure the valve seals might be a little to blame too.

There doesn't seem to be any abnormal play on the rod and the crank, so I think all that is good to use.

So now it's time to pull the top end and piston off the donor motor to transplant onto this one!

Fun little learning experience for my wife and I, as I've never torn into a small engine like this. Compared to cars and trucks, it's much easier to lift off a cylinder head when it only weighs about 2 lbs lol

Might as well jump in on this. First project is swapping the 4.3 out of my jimmy into my parts blazer. Originally I was going to pull the trans out of the blazer for the jimmy but plans changed. Yesterday the trans went out in my Tahoe so I need to get that sorted out soon. Then there is the always on going project that is keeping the wife's 06 charger running. Hopefully I can get these all taken care of so I can get going on the Jimmy's next phase. Sas and a V8.
