Default Rear Differential Fluid (Oil) Change

I have a 2003 2wd with 72k on it. I bought it used at 56K and I, and I'm sure the previous owner has never changed the rear differential fluid.

Should I change it?

I believe the owners manual states to just check and fill to level, which I have done.

Is Walmart's Supertech a good replacement diff fluid?

Thanks in advance for suggestions/thoughts!

Just go to NAPA-determine your axle code and drop the plate and be done with it! If you are going to do any towing, change it! Yes any SAE lube meets the specs required! It is funny that most axles never never get serviced! EVER! Amazing! Considering this is the most overlooked part of the drivetrain!

yes, change it as the stuff that will come out will look grey compared to the golden stuff you put in lol. And just to make sure you know this, clean out the internals with brake parts cleaner. And while your at it, might as well do the front one also (tip, i like to clean the front diff by doing a change and then at your next oil change or so, do it again, that way it gets some of the crud out of it)

EDIT: is it a G80 in the rear? As I believe they require a special fluid (not 100% sure though)

G80 requires nothing special, it is a locking diff and not a limited slip...

Thanks for input!

I am pretty adamant about the maintenance, and usually do preventative maintenance.

What are your thoughts on Super Tech diff fluid from Walmart?
I'm usually for the best in the business, but oil based products are getting pretty expensive. I don't tow with this vehicle and it has never had a hitch on it (previous owner as well).

@Coolasice I do have a G80 and the owners manual calls for 80w90 GL5, nothing special.

@Zanders I'm still looking for the front differential on my 2wd... ;P

My 4.3 runs beautifully smooth on Motorcraft 5w30 with the proper adding of Lubeguard. I use to run Amsoil, but for the price, the Motorcraft w\Lubeguard actually gives me better performance. None of that first start of the day "chatter".
