I dunno about you guys, but that looks really easy to make yourself for a lot cheaper. Get the basket.

basket gets my vote, you can always rig lights up to your basket fairly easily

I agree, you can do alot more with a basket... mount lights as well.

Do they make half baskets? I load a kayak on my roof and a basket would be in the way, but a half basket would allow room for the kayak and gear!!! that would be freaking sweet.

I don't know about a half basket, but they make kayak carriers or you can just put it over the rack.
