Default scratch question

A while back, i was cleaning my grandmas car and i used a mop.

Turn outs while i put it on the hood, i pushed and it made about a 6 inch scratch.

Not sure how deep it is, but lets say its a decent scratch.

So she sends me an email today saying she thinks its about time i pay for it.

She said its $750.

Can fixing a deep scratch really cost $750? Im calling BS.

Not far off. Could be done cheaper but if its deep, they have to sand the area down to metal, prep, bondo, prime, paint, buff and polish. Lots of work.

Why did you use a mop?

I was like 14 and thought it would be faster. LOL

But i dont think i'd EVER be paying over $300 for a scratch. Id tell her to deal with it.

Furthermore, theres dings and scratches on my car i cant afford to remove.

750 is alot... even for canada.... I work in the painting industry and that is expensive...

I don't know of any body shops that buff and polish unless for whatever reason they get dust in the paint they are trying to get out... or you go to the 'high end' body shops but they are few and far(around her anyway)

But an old lady quite often will get charged a lot more because they don't know any better

Wow, she waited long enough. I would see how much you could get it elsewhere. $750 sounds like the whole front end of a car, not the hood.

yeah, now that i think of it, i could buy a brand spaking new hood, and paint for about $400.

So what would be the price for a decent scratch, maybe $100?

Because a hood is about 200.

A hood would cost about $450. The whole hood would have to be done because it's difficult to color match and would require blending the new paint into the old. And when it's in a spot on the hood, it'll be noticeable.
