shimming rear diff..needed??
i am going to be replacing my g80 with another g80 that my father in laws brother has at the shop. my question is, once i remove the whole rear differential do i need to shim the diff when i install the new assembly? i would be using the same pinion and ring gear. if i need to shim the diff, how do i go about doing that, is there a good write up that i can read up on? thanks

You will have to redo the shims side to side due to manufacturing tolerances on the differential housing. You won't have to redo anything on the pinion though unless you are replacing bearings and even then, you could likely use the same setting.
You should be able to turn up some pretty good articles online.

i was almost thinking of just replacing the broken parts that is in there now, but i do not know what size g80 he has, do they all use the same parts or with the different size's use different size gears on the sliding plate?
