So brother has a short tail turbo 350 and my tranny is on it's way out. We took a peek underneath to see if it was a short or a long tail and was surprised to see we couldn't tell because of the transfer case. What type of tranny came in a 1971 K5? mine's an automatic. Any info is welcome. Please help a newbie in this 4x4 world.........

 

TH350. The short/long tail only pertains to the 2wd transmissions though. To make the 2wd short tail TH350 fit in a 4wd, you would have to swap the tail shaft.
