Should I get zq8 rims?

zq8 wheels

Should I go for it? I know zq8 rims are hard to find.

stevo 10-31-2011 10:12 PM

do it and strip the clear coat off them and polish them to a chrome finish!

TripleBlackBlazer 10-31-2011 10:14 PM

These ZQ8 rims are hard to find:

The ones you linked are nice, but not as rare as these ^

gatorboy44 10-31-2011 10:14 PM

You think $200 is a decent deal? Also I'd probably paint them black with a red pinstripe lol

Yeah those are nice!

$50/wheel isn't bad. The ad does say OBO so show up with $150. I paid $100/wheel for my 17x9 Camaro SS wheels. If you're going to put more money into prep/paint then you have to decide if it's a good price or not.

I like the rims you have now (what I can see of them). Why not put a red pinstripe around them?

xgiovannix12 10-31-2011 10:26 PM

wow i never seen those before Gary . I like them !

Yeah I like them but because they are 18"s they give a horribly rough ride for a 4x4 so i'd like to go down to a smaller rim size to absorb more of the road shock. Also because they are so wide they made my mileage almost 3mpgs worse.

GM Performance Parts - 12498299 - "Late Model" S-10 ZQ8 Wheel Package

But if you like the other style and want brand new...... http://paceperformance.com/i-6255258...-s-trucks.html

How are you calculating gas mileage? Remember your speedometer will be off with anything but stock size tires. My 255/70/17's are 11.667% off from stock (235/70/15). When I calculate my gas mileage I take the trip odometer, multiply it by 11.667%, then divide the amount of gallons used to fill it up. My highway mileage actually improved but city mileage went down.

I take the miles I have gone and divide it by how many gallons I filled up with. I run 255/55/R18 tires. They didn't appear any taller than stock just much wider.

TripleBlackBlazer 11-01-2011 07:45 PM

Tire size calculator

^ Very helpful. I plugged in 235/75/15 as stock size and your 255/55/18 and they are marginally different. 20mm wider is about 3/4". How heavy are the rims on their own?

I would venture to say your rough ride is mostly from the 55 series sidewall. Which means going to a 16" rim with more sidewall will help ease the ride, as you are planning on doing.

OR, you can give her MOAR lift and find 18" tires with a 70-75 series sidewall, LOL.

gatorboy44 11-01-2011 08:05 PM

I'm tired of the 18"s anyway, thanks very much for your help man!

TripleBlackBlazer 11-01-2011 08:17 PM

No problem, rims are a very important decision and shouldn't be entered into lightly! LOL

gatorboy44 11-01-2011 08:22 PM

I'm also thinking about just running my stock 4x4 GMC rims, powder coat them black, and run 1.5" spacers in the back to even out the stance. What's your opinion on that? It's the cheap way to go lol

TripleBlackBlazer 11-01-2011 08:31 PM

I LOVE cheap. Unfortunately nothing I like is cheap. You can run 2wd steelies painted flat black. You can probably pick them up for around the same price as the spacers.

Like so:

https://blazerforum.com/forum/member...ghts-17557.jpg

No need to run spacers and front AND rear wheels will be pushed out.

Which stock wheels do you have? Some stock wheels look ok painted/powdercoated black, others don't. Do you have a friend that powdercoats? If not, it's pricey from what I've seen.

xgiovannix12 11-01-2011 08:33 PM

Im glad i listened to Gary to keep these rims

I FELL IN LOVE With them since

gatorboy44 11-01-2011 09:45 PM

^ Yeah that is a good idea, and BTW I love the bullet hole rims. Keep em for good!

xgiovannix12 11-01-2011 09:50 PM

yea i plan to get an other rim for my spare

gatorboy44 11-01-2011 09:51 PM

Yeah I need to find another as well, I hate covering the steelie on the back with a cover!

Thogert 11-01-2011 11:10 PM

I hate not having my spare on the back. I need to find a zr2 at the junk yard.

gatorboy44 11-02-2011 07:36 AM

I bet is a big PITA to mod a spare tire rack on a 4dr!

Thogert 11-02-2011 07:45 AM

It doesn't look too bad, lots of guys on here have done it.

gatorboy44 11-02-2011 09:28 AM

Youre definately gonna need some kind of supports

Thogert 11-03-2011 12:36 AM

Yeah, they put some renforcing steel plates behind the body panels. There is a how to on here for it.

Good luck with it, when I bought my Jimmy somebody had taken the rack off. It took me almost 6 months to find another that was in good condition.

justoblaze11 11-07-2011 10:31 PM

yes! if you have the opportunity yes! they look awesome on these trucks

gatorboy44 11-08-2011 07:48 AM

Yeah I ended up passing them up I dont have the funds right now :(

billbobagns 12-30-2011 07:45 PM

But with 4x4 Blazer, those zq8s will stick way out, right? I had some 4" bs wheels on my 4X4. I thought they looked good, but several of my friends expressed concern for my safety. Whats up with that? Anyway, I had to pull them for a friend I gave my 2wd parts car to. He built it and could not use the 6"bs wheels I gave him with it!

BlazerX 03-23-2012 07:59 PM

ZQ8 wheels

I have these on my red Xtreme Blazer I polished center caps and painted the "Bowtie" with Tamiya acrylic red, subtle yes but made a huge difference overall. I love these wheels just wish they were chrome and came in a 16x10 offset.
