I have a 2002 Blazer with 88k on the clock that I purchased for 3000 I have already put 1000 dollars in it. Brakes, Shocks , Plugs, Wires , Cap ,rotor, air and fuel filter and a couple of other things. So now having 4000 in to it I have a coolant leak. Im pretty sure its the intake gaskets. So to sum up everything ill have 4500 in it. Should I sell and get out of it or just keep? kbb says the car is worth 5500 So i would probably get 5.

 

Yea, you gotta hate the vehicles that nickel and dime ya. But go with your gut man. Every car will have its problems. How much of an attachment do you have to the blaze?

 

I want to keep it! I think it would be a good truck for like 2-3 years after I get that done. Because Ive done just about everything that wears out. just wanted a second opinion!

I wouldnt get rid of mine for anything, even if it did cost a grand to fix it. Ive had a few problems with the one i have now. Nothing major, but my last one cost me quite a bit. And i finally decided it was time to rid of it, miss it every day. Guess i just get a little to attached to em...

Personally I wouldn't put more than BlueBook value into a car (including purchase price) within the first year. Which... I'm darn close to doing already in mine, but still. If it's going to cost you more than bluebook, I'd sell it.

Or, for that matter, do what you are comfortable with. If you are comfortable spending another grand, go for it. If you're hesitant and think you can sell the truck for what you've got into it and can buy something else with that cash, then go that route.

After you put the work into it, you know it's good for another 80-100k. It's completely up to you. I have a friend that tries to average $1k/year in total costs (including purchase price) for as long as he owns it. If you have $4500 into it total, you'd have to get 4.5 years out of it for that equation to work. Do you plan on owning it for another 5 years?

Iv got a 96 4 door and me and my father already has more into it then the KBB worth. And i still wouldnt get rid of it for anything. Blazers are to reliabile

 

When owning a vehicle, you're going to have to put money into it to keep it running. The maintenance, gas, insurance, and registration are just what comes along with it. You're already way ahead of the person who bought your 2002 brand new for probably $25,000ish. If they financed it, like most do, it is much more than that. Plus the extra cost of full insurance coverage. Putting $1000 to keep it on the road isn't all that bad.
