i moded the pic because it was easier than trying to explain

impact strip: little plastic pre-bumper that absorbs light impact (think shopping cart) so as not to mar the metal. in a collision it gets toasted. i was at home depot and got bumped (i believe) by someone that went too far through their parking stall. split the strip but didn't mis-align my bumper any...

it's not BAD if it breaks, you will just have a series of unfilled holes lining your bumper from one side ot another. I have had mine off since it was hit (bought it like 4 months earlier for $14 from rock auto) just said F-it since then. God has not struck me down yet

a valance is a plastic lip that lives on the bottom of a bumper. it's sporty looking, dresses things up, and helps with aerodynamics to an extent. sit near a curb or sidewalk in front of a building and watch sedans park by it. the thing you hear scraaaaaappppping against the concrete <-- thats the valance

After prepping the surface with scotchbrite pads you may want to consider using a self-etching primer. It will adhere to the chrome better than paint, and provide a better surface on which to apply the paint. In the long run it will help to prevent chips and peeling.

theres 6 bolts you must take off to get your bumper off. you have to remove your grill then there is 2 centrally located. then theres 2 set out a little bit, then go to the side of your car in your wheel well theres a bar connecting your frame to the bumper so disconnect it at the bumper not the frame otherwise its a pita to get back on later

I was thinking about it... but other than the blacked out front end... not much has changed

all of my projects still live in the garage...

and so as not to hijack this post; how's the bumper project coming?

Alright guys, i just got it off. Now abn, did ypou say the plastic( valance) comes off of the chrome?

Or should i just paint the entire thing so its matching and not 2 different color blacks.
