Sleeping/Camping in a Blazer??
Im thinking of getting a Blazer/Jimmy 4 door 4x4 for a camping rig. Was gonna use my Grand Cherokee but its not long enough. Anyone know if with the back seats folded down is there enough room to lay down in a small Blazer? Im about 6'1" so would probly want a couple more inches than that to be safe. In my Jeep I had to put the front seats all the waty forward and remove the bottom portion of the back seats to make it work. My bro had a first gen Explorer and it was long enough.

I have the 99 Jimmy and I'm 6 ft. I sleep in it someyimes. However I believe it is the same length as the Grand Cherokee.

My 1996 Grand Cherokee was 177 inches, a Blazer is 181 inches, and a first gen Explorer is 184 inches long. Another issue with the Jeep was with the back seats. The bottom portion tilted forward and the the back folded down. So for a flat surface I had to remove the bottom part, then slide the front seat forward to have enough room. With the first gen Explorer you drop the back of the seat down and you have a flat surface and there was enough room to lay n sleep.

The Blazer is great for camping...as long as your towing a 18' trailer behind it.

you can sleep in the back, with the back seats down you have about 6'1'' to the seats but the annoying part is the back head rests they could be cumbersome im not sure if they can be removed or not, i hope you have an air mattress cause the D-ring tie downs in the back just seem to find you spine (i got drunk and slept back there a few years ago)

i use mine for camping if i dont wanna setup a tent. im 6'3.

My Blazer came stock with a camping package - including cutlery & crockery! :) :)
This was actually a Japanese dealership accessory - Who'd have thought the Jap's were into camping? http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...ampersetup.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...ampersetup.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...ampersetup.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...ampersetup.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...persetup-1.jpg |
LUCKY!!!!! thats cool!

I like the platform, can store crap under it. Tho Im afraid it would make getting in/out more difficult. Is there a way to open the back hatch from the inside? I may have a problem climbing out the door with the platform. Im not very limber or coordinated.
|
Kiwi, that is a really cool accessory!
My 2¢ on the camping thread though is that I would want a couple of screen windows. It gets really hot and buggy here in summer. peace . |

I have often thought about spending the night out on the beach but I have not as of yet done it, but then I also have a 2 door.

I have a 97 4dr and with the seats folded down i can fit a twin air mattress in the back just perfect. Granted I am only 5'9" though.

trailblazr , I love that Skeeter Beater idea. Thanks for the link!

Didn't read the thread as I gotta run..
I have a 2dr and am just over 6'1 and have slept in the back of mine on multiple ocasions. fold the front seats forward all the way, back seats down, put the headrests down and a foamy over top(holds the headrest down and protects you from tie downs, or whatever. stretched out my head just hits the seat and my feet just hit the tailgate. I usually tent it but for 1 nighters when I don't have my Jimmy loaded with camping supplies I just crash in the back, have gone a long weekend in the back with the g/f with no issues(forgot tent somehow haha) If you have an overhead console the back seat lights work great when you need to see too! |
ive slept in the back a few times and i agree, fold the back seat head rests down and fold the front seats forward and your fine, im 6'1 to. i throw my bags in the front seat and i have a rooftop box i through a bunch of gear in as well

I found three options online for my '02 Blazer, experience/comments?
Add-A-Cabana SafariSoftshellSleepers Midsize-Truck-Cap-Tent . |
that camping pad is the bee's knees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an archery hunting/camping trip coming up in late August and I always tent and cot it for the week but that was when I had a dodge ram, and now that I have my blazer, I am going to make it a point to spend a night in it.......
|
I'm 6-1, the back of the truck should be good to sleep in, just make sure you gets some padding, those D-rings can be a bitch. The fold-flat seats are great.
|
Looks like my 5'8" actually came in handy for once! I just spend a couple nights at the lake camping in the Blazer. I think with a memory foam piece cut to fit around the wheel wells, it would be great. No sand or bugs or moisture inside as opposed to a tent! You can always open the triangle windows to get some air too.

Ive slept in the back of james more times than I can count. Im 6 ft and with the seats down and 2 sleeping bags I sleep like a baby.
