So yesterday, I brought my boat to the river. I only really use my blazer once a week to pull the boat. Stopped at the gas station across the street to fill up the boat. Started the truck, and (just like last time), the truck started running rough and the check engine light came on. I think the steering column somehow manages to grab the spark plug wire on cylinder number one and unplug it. Going to readjust it this week. Anyway, I get to the boat ramp, shut off the truck, prep the boat for the water, then pop the hood and push plug wire #1 back on to the plug. Get back in to the truck to back the boat in, and when I turn the key, absolutely nothing happens. So here I am, blocking 3 parked truck/trailer combos. I'm getting nothing when I turn the key. Figured I blew a fuse or something. Couldn't find any bad fuses, so I started to think that my alternator went bad and I drained the battery driving the boat to the river. Started calling friends to see if someone could at least pull me out of the way of the other people. No go.

Got a ride home, decided to grab my other vehicle and throw it's fully charged battery into the truck to at least get it moved out of the way where I could do a "field change" of the alternator. Started pulling the battery and noticed a ton of corrosion on the positive terminal. Cleaned it off with a wire brush and all was well....

From panicking because I was blocking people, to planning for a field operation to change the alternator, to simply having to clean the battery terminals. Argh.

You know I thought I was going crazy today. Over the last few days I did a tune up to my '01 and its the first time I did any maintenance to it since I got it.
So I thought why not start familarizing myself with the truck and get comfy with it. I changed out the oil,air filter,checked pvc valve,and changed the plugs out before I got started on the fuel filter and changing out the old fuel pump that was singing me a tune. It was getting that bad so it was time to park it for the week.
But anyway I changed the plugs and did the usual one at a time. Made sure I placed every boot back on. Placed the wheels back on and cranked in at the fuel filter and fuel pump. Got that done. Started the truck and wham rough idle. Though well it hasnt run for the week let it warm up. Then took it up the road and as soon as I pulled out, it was hesitant and grumpy.
I thought I misgapped a plug or the fuel pressure had air in it. So I came back and the service engine soon light came on. Left it sit till the morning and rechecked all the plugs. Started on the passenger side. But nothing wrong. Had a look at the 5th,3rd and the last one number 1 had the wire dangling.
Till now I thought well I must have forgotten to put it on. And after thinking about it all day I thought how the heck can I miss putting a wire back on????
I just read your post and got to thinking maybe it was blown off, as you stated, by the steering column.
Ill have to keep a watch on that next time.
