Stripping paint of off the top-74 Jimmy
I have recently acquired a 74 Jimmy. The removable top seems to have been painted green and I would like it white. I don't know much about these but was thinking I could have it media blasted (plastic) and once stripped then primed and painted white with a satin finish.
Anyone with any experience with this? Is this top fiberglass or composite? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/blazerf...b61b4b8c8.jpeg |
If you are set on blasting, use soda only. Larger, sharper abrasives (glass, coal slag, etc.) can be too aggressive and actually eat into the fiberglass.
There are chemical paint strippers that can be used on fiberglass (with proper precautions) which would create less of a mess compared with blasting, but likely would be more expensive if you already have the blasting equipment. |
