Default Transmission just won't shift.

97 V6, 2wd, 4 dr. I have only 2nd and third gear. I have: Ohmed solenoids, changed tranny, changed computer(ECM), switched components back and forth and no difference. I have run a new wire to the 12 volt input on the tranny, and done everything I can think of. Checked harness plugs.
With shifter in drive, it takes off in third and stays there. With shifter in L or 2, takes off in 2nd and stays there until shifted to 3rd or D then upshifts to third. I've heard this is "limp home" mode. There are no codes in the computer to indicate a problem.

Theres a sensor/s on the engine that control the shifting of the trans but still it would show a code. You got me stumped.
