Question Typical Chevy gas guage?

OK... I'm driving along, Low Fuel light comes on. I watch it fluctuate up & down every so often as per normal for a chevy but then I see a traffic light change to red ahead & kick it into neutral to coast... OMG the fuel gauge goes UP!
WTF... so I put it in drive & carry along, it goes back down & the light comes back on, intrigued I kick it into neutral again & I'll be damned if the gauge didn't go back up again! lol
Any speed it doesn't matter, if I put it in neutral the gas gauge goes up & not a lil bit, a few notches!

I'm figuring if I do that enough I'll fill the tank lol

soooo odd, but now I know when the Low Fuel light comes on to put it in neutral a few times to see what's actually in the tank.

My fuel gauge is not accurate at all. It works kinda like a metronome.
I just use the trip odometer to gauge my usage.

lol... I knew a long time ago, decades ago that chevy's were odd with the fuel gauge. But what I don't understand is what the hell does it going into neutral have to do with the fuel gauge?
The speed is the same so the gas isn't slopping around.
The volts are the same in drive & in neutral.
Even when I'm stopped & I put it in neutral the gauge moves.
Just another chevy oddity I suppose.

Just look on the bright side. A srewey gas gauge is better then none. My fullsize goes down with the blinker. And about 3/4 the way down with head lights. Been this way for years

My gauge hasn't worked in over four years. It always stays past the full mark and then randomly goes back and forth from full to empty when I have less than a gallon left.
