wanting to get a car

Well, I am going to be graduating school soon and starting college. I want to find an affordable car with good gas mileage for.me to commute to college. I want to the car to be easily modded as well. I don't want to get rid of my blazer though. I'd like to stick to chevy, but any American made car is fine. Any ideas on some cars? Pics of anyones car would be nice.

I used to have a 97 Grand Am with the Quad Four. Not a bad car, but a bit of a pain in the ass to work on.

I should have said gm preference not chevy lol. Grand am's are pretty nice. I just want a reliable car that j don't have to worry if it will start or not

I miss driving a car its been 2 years since my little saturn died on me.I loved that little car 34mpg hiway and 25 city.It was very reliable for a while. Not to mention it was a sporty car to get around in.I had Pontiac 6000 also with the 3.1 alot of power and about the same mpg as the saturn.Me and mrs had that car for 8 years bought it with 77k.It had 188k on it when it started developing issues. It blew the intake gasket and antifreeze ruin the bearings.Scrap prices were high at the time so to the scrapper it went.I got $375 for it.Been driving my GMC truck now for 2 years and Im tired of driving it.Wish I can get the my Jimmy going soon.

It seems lik around where I live (rust loving PA) people want to sell their rust buckets for 5X more than they're worth

WitchingHour 04-24-2013 07:45 PM

Take a trip down to the Carolinas. I bought a 93 Silverado back in 99, when I was stationed in Upstate NY (Fort Drum)... wish I'd have thought that one through a little better. It was a solid, reliable vehicle, but I spent a lot of time underneath it with an angle grinder.

just dont buy a dodge! i have nothing against them, i think most of them look pretty good, but i have heard that they get terrible mileage.
just my .02

WitchingHour 04-24-2013 07:51 PM

There's plenty not to like about a Dodge. I was looking at a 3500 with the 5.9 Cummins in it, and what made me decide not to buy it was everything about the truck which wasn't Cummins.

swanman35 04-24-2013 10:02 PM

I hate dodge, and I've never owned one. From what I see they rust out very badly. My friend has a 1500(I may be wrong), but I think fron the late 90's and there is more rust showing then I've ever seen.

Any chrysler product is just weird. My sis in law had an intrepid, and a voyager mini van. I worked on both for her, and some of the things the "engineers" designed for those cars was just plain dumb!

swanman35 04-25-2013 10:05 PM

They're ugly too, which I really don't care about ay this point.. but still ugly lol. Few dodges are nice looking to me. The newer trucks id hate to say LOOK cool.

WitchingHour 04-25-2013 11:19 PM

I don't mind the ugliness... in fact, I'm drawn to it. My dream garage would include a Gremlin, a Pacer, an Edsel, an Aztek, a Corvair, a Chevette, a Vega, and a Pinto.

swanman35 04-26-2013 06:05 AM

That's one large garage!

dustinhxc 04-27-2013 02:15 AM

Lumina will get you good mpg and Hp

swanman35 04-27-2013 08:19 AM

I never see them for sale around here. The only cars I've seen so far thay weren't trashed was a cavalier, for 6500, and a focus for 5000.

okiedoak20 04-27-2013 03:54 PM

you mentioned GM right, well i owned a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 hatch back, fun car, then lowered it 2" and installed 18" wheels, then added a supercharger, talking about fun, like a skate board on rails, plus i got 30mpg, and never missed a beat

swanman35 04-28-2013 08:10 AM

the focus around here is a hatch, but.I think 5000 is a little much for the condition
