Well, I had plans for the blazer

Owned it 9 months and did a LOT of maintenance and fix-ups and the whole family enjoyed it. My firebird really appreciated the time off from being my commuter.

I was West-bound on a rural state highway going about 20mph in 4wd. Roads were NOT good at all. It was around 0630. A grey, late-model, Dodge 3/4ton crew-cab 4x4 was East-bound and lost it right in front of me and turned sideways. I steered left to try avoiding but his rear bumper caught the blazer in the rear passenger door which sent me into the ditch and up against new (still green) 6" fence posts. The blazer was actually leaning on them, but you can't tell in the pictures. The Dodge spun on around and came to rest in the opposite ditch pointed West. He was able to back out and after giving the deputy his info, took off.

4 hours later the blazer was underway. Drives okay, but I am betting they (the other guy's insurance) will total it. I took it to one body shop for a quick estimate and it came to $4600 and they admitted to trying to 'save' the truck. There were several things damaged not on the estimate. The truck was cosmetically almost perfect other than paint coming off the roof rack. Its got new shocks, brakes, tires, fluids, etc. I've fixed nearly every lose screw, nut, and bolt on it. Solid truck.....or was.

Yesterday I taped up the window, yanked my gear out of it, and parked it out in the field until I know what is going to happen with it.

I've already been out on Autotrader looking for a similar replacement..... We'll have to see what the insurance co. will get us.

OUCH! I'm sorry about your Blazer, the most important thing is that you're ok. You can always replace a vehicle, you can't replace a life.

Phil 01-27-2010 03:56 PM

Ouch man. Sorry about your loss but glad you're okay. I know what its like to go from an F-body to one of these. Yeah there isn't as much pep in a Blazer, but damn is it comfortable.

Blazers.B.Kewl 01-27-2010 04:03 PM

looks like that will turn into a nice trail rig. :) Do that and you won't be worried about marring it up any (more). As long as it's still drive-able. But seriously, that sucks. That's a lot of work you put into it just to have it be taken away. Best of luck with it.

ABN31B 01-27-2010 04:26 PM

Again, That sucks! Again, glad you are good.

Go for the total, and buy her back. Strip all the good stuff and put it on the replacement Blazer you are itching to buy, and swap all of it's stuff on to the wreck. sawzall the fenders off and trail rig the hell out of her. A Blazer could not ask for a more fitting end :icon_wave:

zedartwo 01-27-2010 04:40 PM

Yea, sorry to hear about your blazer but at least you ok! Hopefully the Insurance Co. works in your favor!

CraigSnedeker 01-27-2010 06:12 PM

OUCH! That looks painful :(

OH ya kudos on the Jesus fish =D

TripleBlackBlazer 01-27-2010 07:24 PM

How did you like those Mastercraft Courser's? Traction, treadwear, cost, etc. etc.

old skool luvr 01-28-2010 01:13 AM

it's been said before, but i'll say it again, OUCH!!!

looks like the only corner not to get it was the front passenger's.

that's what sucks about s**t like this happening. it not your fault, but the other guys insurance sure as hell isn't gonna replace your truck-regardless of what it's worth.

oh well, @ least you're ok. now to start window shopping for a replacement..........

My blazer was totalled in October... paid something like 4k for it... 98 115k on the clock, 4 door, 4x4..... They wrote a check for 5600-6000 ish, and I paid it off, and bought some items for it and spent some money on some other things...

Bought it back after it was totalled for 250, and have about 800 in it in new parts.... thats at the most... and I should be posting pictures of the work by next weekend

dougg01 01-28-2010 12:15 PM

Talked to the other party's insurance co and they said it's now listed as a probable total. Send them the accident report and the adjuster is supposed to call this afternoon to talk and then set up an appointment to see it.

I'm checking out Craigslist and Autotrader for a replacement. Whatever I get it will need a lot of stuff to get back where this one was as far as having things taken care of (everything from wiper blades to brake pads).

Not sure what all is going to happen. Waiting game right now. I need 4wd wheels....big snow coming tomorrow and I don't want to take my 12-sec firebird out in it....

wlorton 01-28-2010 12:55 PM

Be sure to show them the value for the vehicles in your area... I got a larger amount because a dealer was selling my exact model/year with 222,000 miles for 6k, so they bumped it towards that. Also if you have any extra modifications that you did, like say the rotors, be sure to mention they were just replaced... etc..... Depending on the adjuster,.... they may be nice and work with you...

jsmz 01-28-2010 07:03 PM

Wow, when you PM'd me & told me it got wrecked... I didnt think it was THAT bad. Man that thing is WASTED. That sucks, you did have some good plans for it.

Well if you get lucky, you might be able to find a good deal on a new blazer & get to use the rest of the check on all the mods you had in store for this one. At least this happened before you got all your work done.... i know you were very close to doing that stuff too.

Damn, i probably would have went to jail if that happened to mine. Probably would have beat that guys face with the torque wrench i carry for a tire iron. Cuz I know for a FACT no insurance company would give me what mine is worth.

88s10Blazer 01-28-2010 10:41 PM

Why would you say you would beat his face in with a torque wrench? No one was at fault, it was a nasty night out apparently. No need for violence. That's why it's called an accident. And using a torque wrench for a tire iron is probably not the best idea in my book...

jsmz 01-29-2010 02:09 AM

alot of things i do are not the best things to do and i have no problem with that. probably why im a two time convicted felon, and i said that because thats probably what i would do. im not going to lie or sugar coat it at all.

if the guy would have been being more responsible in the first place it more than likely wouldnt have happened. i know it and you know it the chances of " just going sideways" for no apparent reason is slim no matter the road conditions. more than likely the guy was screwing around with his cell, cigarette, coffee, whatever. I can tell you if i had hit someone like that i would fully expect a fist in my mouth and wouldnt even think to press charges either.

if more people faced physical consequences in life for the actions they take, i guarantee you they would be a lot more careful about the things they do.
I got my ass beat regularly as a kid and deserved every bit of it. i also learned many valuable lessons from it
just like spankin a disobedient child. ground him, hes not going to learn a thing, spank his ass and he will think twice next time.

and yeah, using a torque wrench is a good idea since the lugs are supposed to be torqued to 103 ft lbs. not just turn it till its tight. your book must be pretty thin.

old skool luvr 01-29-2010 02:49 AM

and my wife thinks i have road rage issues!

i'm not gonna tell you how to live your life brother, the physical threat bit doesn't work (especially if you're a big guy), and an off the cuff remark landed me in the back of a cruiser for over an hour (all while i was supposed to be at a funeral, acting as a Pallbearer :icon_doh:).

i just think the cops should crack down on the little things (like signaling, lane mergeing, and left turns to name a few), and the larger "mistakes" should correct themselves.

i don't think anyone should have to suger coat anything. if you don't like what i have to say, that's your opinion, and we're all entitled to our own opinion. PC crap is for the birds.

well, i think we've jacked his thread enough. back to the topic @ hand.

Unlimitedsp 01-29-2010 09:52 AM
