What is the best battery ?
I just wanted to say use caution if you are tempted to try this Group 78 size battery. It is a tight fit getting it in the compartment and when you bolt it down to secure it, The battery is only the width of a no. 2 pencil from the radiator. I will post to the forum if I have any issues with it rubbing the radiator Also in my write up, I mentioned I had to 'move the radiator'. I didn't have to remove the radiator, just wiggle it forward a little. I only had to remove the fan shroud.
Well their not as old as I thought they were and prob built better than what available now but I looked today and my Super Starts were installed in my 83 Chevy 6.2 diesel pickup in 03 and still doing well
I would like to add a terminal so I can screw on a harness for my 'Battery Tender Jr' to allow you to quickly plug in the charger and tender without using the alligator clips. My new battery is putting out a ideal 12.6 VDC, so it will be a while before I need to have a charger on it. Look at the excellent photo's posted by 03jawja to see what terminal add on I am talking about and note he has added screw on terminals for accessories---both positive and negative.
03jawja: please note in the 'Related Topics' that appears automatically below that the 3rd item is 'Best spot for aux battery ?' although it dates back to 5-2014. Never mind, I see it has zero replies. Sorry, no go.

Jim these terminals( skyhighaudio) work great, they were slightly tricky to.install. I will say if I can get rid of abs and relocate radiator tank I want to add an extra fuse distribution block and extra terminals.
This is a battery update from the OP. My Walmart battery is still going strong. The tight tolerances for the slightly bigger than stock battery hasn't been a problem. No chaffing or scrapping at all. I do put a Battery Tender , Jr. on it occasionally when it is going to sit and rest for a while. This means when I am doing a 'quick project' on the Blazer and it takes longer than planned. Don't let the battery die and then slam it with a quick charge. Batteries like the Battery Tender treatment better.
"Best" is going to be subjective. Everyone has their personal favorites and opinions on other brands.
I'm quite fond of my Optima yellow top. Deep cycle, so if it dies it can be recharged without harming the battery. Plenty of amperage. The dual side and top post is a must for my setup as well; I run the factory positive and negative leads, winch, and off road LED lights to the side posts, and then my sub amp 0 gauge, electric fans, and direct ground to the winch off the top posts.
They're pricey for sure, but they've never let me down. Have only ever had to jump the Blazer once, after letting it set for a little over 2 weeks, and I blame my Android radio which is always "on"...
I stumbled on another one at the salvage yard and grabbed it for a spare. I keep it topped up with a battery maintainer in the garage and it usually gets used to run a pair of high quality industrial sign wave power inverters in the case of a power outage (has gotten us through one hurricane, and I'm going to be counting on it if and when we loose power with the storm on it's way to Florida right now)

I have one in our little Hyundai Elantra as well

i just chucked a stock 550 CCA Group 75 Everstart in mine, if i could find a Delco Freedom i would because im trying to get mine to Factory new condition. eventually im going to make a charging harness for a battery tender so i can plug it in over the drivers side rail.
