i was able to finish cutting out the floor on the newer k5 today. so i got that out and was looking at things to figure out what the hell im going to do with it. the rear most cross member is totally shot and now even connected to the passenger side of the car so i can slide the body around with my bare hands. so im thinking about maybe taking the entire rear end off of the 74 and seeing if i can retro fit it or something like that.
oh and on a separate thought, i want to convert the truck to propane. anybody know how to do that and how much it would cost? i know they sell kits for like 1200 but im more looking for something home made lol.

Why convert a Jeep to Propane
A little more than halfway down he's got a list of "what you need" to do this. Granted it's on a Scrambler, but I assume the parts will probably be roughly the same.
Propane injection is awesome, my only concern about it is that you can't exactly get propane filled on every street corner like you can with gasoline.

Propane has a lower BTU rating than gasoline, so you'll lose some MPG unless using it as a suppliment (but that would require a whole lot of tuning and ingenuity)....as well as a loss of power (not sure how much but probably around 5hp)
The link I posted mentions a few different options for tanks. With a truck he says it "running but really out of tune" he pulled in 12 MPG city. I imagine you could improve on that with a good tune and a light touch on the throttle, but I can't find anything for sure.
Another thing I'm noticing is I don't seem to see any EPA certified kits. It seems that any propane injected vehicle is intended for offroad use only.

which is exactly how i want to use it as. it just seems safer than a big tank of gas under the truck but if it costs anything close to 1000 looks like its out of the question for a couple years. i can manage with gas,
On a carbureted vehicle it would be easy to run it as a suppliment....but on a fuel injected vehicle you'd have to have an ECM capable of monitoring the propane flow and adjusting the fuel/air mixture according to both propane, air, and gasoline. It'd be a very expensive venture I would think. Not to mention you'd be pioneering this as i've not heard of it being done before on a gas vehicle that's fuel injected. They make diesel systems similar to the way nitrous works but we're talking about a totally different animal at that point.
