What oil do y’all use in your 4.3 Vortec?
I recently switched from Quaker state 5w30 to Mobil 1 high mileage 5w30.
The difference this M1 HM 5w30 is pretty significant.
I used to have a ticking sound at idle on the left bank of the engine with QS oil and all the other oils I’ve tried. The noise was pretty noticeable outside the truck next to the hood.
When I switched to M1 HM 5w30, the weird engine noises went away completely. The engine is super quiet now, the only thing I hear when I open the door while the engine is idling is the infamous “GM whistle/whine” from the accessory drive.
Also, the balance shaft rattle sound is much quieter inside the truck with this oil.
I’ve used many different oils on my 4.3. I’ve tried M1 0w40, Valvoline Maxlife 5w30, pennzoil platinum 5w30, Castrol 5w30, Quaker state 5w30, Walmart 10w30, and etc. M1 HM 5w30 made a difference immediately on the first start.
I know this engine will basically run on any oil, but the quietness with the M1 hm 5w30 is what I like!
Pretty crazy, but I just thought I would share this!

I don't see why not. You could even mix different viscosity. When you do, you get an average of both viscosities. But I would not advise that. I believe the only difference between brands is the additives added to enhance the oil. The most important thing is to do an oil change at the correct interval, use the recommend viscosity, and to use the correct amount.
