What causes the engine to stall when you go in deep water? Also what can the water level get to on our trucks? There were some flooded roads around here a few weeks ago, but I decided to play it safe and just splash in the puddles.

The engine will stall if it sucks in water through the intake. If its enough water it will hydrolock the motor and most of the times requires a new one. I did this a few weeks ago and got really lucky that none of the connecting rods broke or bent. You dont want water any higher than your intake. Which if its that high it will be coming in the doors too. Even if the water isnt that deep, when you go through it with some speed the tires will throw the water up and can cause it to take in water. Thats what happened to me

 

It is sucked in through the intake which is why most of your off road enthusiasts run a snorkel.

 

Water can get in some other places it doesn't belong in deep water also, or so I've heard. I had to drive my Blazer through some deep water to get to work once, my usual way was so deep it had claimed two victims of the sedan variety. The only other way was better but still up around the frame. It was freaky and I'd just as soon that never happened again

 

Flood waters don't have to be very high to take your truck down the stream with it.

 

It was just huge puddles in the roads. No current or connected stream... But cool. As long as I'm going slow and water isn't coming in the door I'm good to go then.

 

Don't fly through them and you should be fine, I've gone through so pritty deep stuff stock because I went nice and slow. Now i'm not saying grandma them but don't be playing speed racer either lol. If you ever dought you can make it, I say don't try it.

That's a badass rig, but I couldn't justify doing that to my 99% street ride. Maybe I'll pick up a beater one of these days...
