Default 1996 blazer 4x4 GHOST in the engine.

Anybody seen this... While driving low speeds appox. 10mph . take off or traffic jam. The ABS light comes on then the transmission down shifts to low gear(feels like you arn in 4 wheel low lock) giving the gas makes the RPM go up to about 4000 RPM and the car is just bearly moving. also noticed the speedometer is not moving even though the car is doing about 25MPH while in this condition. at about 4300RPM the car shifts into normal gear and everything goes to normal. ABS light stays on for a little while then goes out. This process repeats after the car has not been driven until the next day and sometimes does not do it the next day. I check the breaks and foung them to be in good shape. Checked the transmission fluid and is ok and up to full mark. Has anybody ever seen this?

Ok I asked a friend of mine about this... he is a shop forman for Chevy... anyway.. he said sounds like a transmission problem. Asked how many miles does the truck have as well.... but said most likely needs a tranny rebuild. but thats without looking at it.

Current milage is 181000. Transmission rebuilt at 140000. Brakes worn maybe 60-70%. But like I said does not do it all the time. I do not understand why the ABS light come on right before the transmission goes into low gear. It is almost like the computer is sensing the breaks is out and it gears down automaticly. Is the break sensors tied into the the transmission?

ok and I quote:

the trans and abs are not related...he may have a bad abs wheel speed sensor that is causing the light and premature abs activation. some may mistake the abs kicking in to be a trans concern... also... the wheel hub bearing where the sensor sits may be bad as well.

I will check the sensors and replace the brakes. Pads and shoes and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback.

Oh....Just to make sure you understand what i mean by tramsmission gearing down when ABS light comes on.. It is like pushing the gas to the floor and the blazer just barely moves as the RPM increases the transmission shifts into its higher gear then all is normal. It is not the sound or vibration of the ABS it is actually gearing down. BUT only when the ABS light come on. Again thanks for the help. Will let you know what happens.

OK... I changed all break pads and rear shoes. Bled all four break lines. Problem now is gone. No more Anti break light.
no more transmission gearing down. When I inspected the breaks I found nothing wrong. with the pads or the rear shoes. they were slightly worn but well within limits. meaning not to the metal. I have been driving with the new pad and shoes for about 2 weeks and the problem has not come back... go figure.
