Default exhaust problem and ?

so the top of my muffler basically fell off dont ask me how i dont got a clue started her up and the top just hit the ground sound nice but i really dont want to get poisoned by the fumes. would it be ok to gut the muffler and fix the top of it i do have the welder to weld it back together and if that wont work can any one suggest a muffler with a nice deep tone to it for a reasonable price.
thank you

Don't waste your time trying to weld up your muffler.
I just went to my local muffler shop and told him what I wanted, something a little louder, deep, throaty, not tinny etc...
Quality is generally reflected in the price. You get what you pay for.
