Removing the pan??? WOW.. I have heard that some may require removing the transmission crossmember, but never the exhaust...

If you have enough room under the truck and a long, strong prybar, you can pry the exhaust over far enough to wiggle the pan out.
It does take 2 people, and I have done it,with a 4 foot prybar.
Careful putting it back on 'cause it's real tight at the front of the pan.

Unless your exhaust has been severly bent outof position or it was repaired in correctly the y-pipe should be not even close enough to the trans pan to require removal of exhaust to service the tranny filter. My 2000 4dr may require that i remove the bolts holding the tranny mount to the tranny and the bolts holding the crossmember to the frame so I can slide it rearward a little to get access to the rear pan bolts but I might just try to find a wobble socket that fits instead...

I know your pain. I have to remove my cross over pipe to remove the tranny pan as well. That is in all 3 of my Blazers. '87, '93, and '00.
Spray the bolts holding the cross over pipe to the exhaust manifold every day for a week with PB Blaster. And even then there is no garuntee that you won't break one or more of the bolts off. If you do break one or more off, drill them out and use bolts and nuts. Dont even mess with retapping the exhaust manifold. Drilling them old bolts out wont be easy. No room, hardened steel, etc. Once you break the bolts off, take the exhaust manifold off to drill the bolts out. Or you could take it to an exhaust shop, and have them replace the cross-over pipe to exhaust manifold gaskets. This way they can deal with the rusted bolts..

I have done it with a prybar, pushing the crossover pipe forward (there is some flex there), then tipping the pan down at the back and sliding the pan out. It is possible.

i have the same year and model truck that you do. I did mine at about the same milage that you did. The easiest way to do that job is to remove the crossmember. Then jack the transmission to the bottom of the body if you still need more room. IF anything to support the tranny while the member is off. That was the easiest and best way to change the tranny filter for me.

Hey,
I need to appologize. I completely missunderstood the problem. Here I was thinking remove the tranny cross brace, yet I posted to remove the exhaust cross over pipe. Doh......
Someones gotta question me when I do stupid stuff like that. OK?
