Default Front Axle Nut Size

Hi,
New guy here. Getting ready to replace hub assembly on my wife's 98 4x4. I have all the tools I need except the socket for the axle nut. Can anyone tell me what size socket I will need?

Thanks
Chris

I think it's 36mm. Hopefully someone else here can verify.

Yup, 36mm. Most autoparts stores have a deep 36mm socket they sell for this purpose. I think I paid like $5 for mine, and some autoparts stores actually have a loan-a-tool program where you can borrow it for free. Well, you'll pay for it, then when you return it, you get your money back.

Good luck with the repair. Scott (4lowlife) and I will be replacing his wheel bearing this weekend along with putting on a transmission cooler and installing a trans shift kit.

expect pay $18.00 for that socket. Mine is an impact. Oh yeah, make sure your purchase is a deep socket.

I'm gonna chug quarts of royal purple blinker fluid with the swartz

I got pics of the check ball locations when you need them.

36mm is what I have been told as well.
I know AZ sells em.

Please post em! Did you use vaseline to keeps the checkballs in place? I read that any other grease would be bad for the internals.
This will be my first tranny semi-disection. My floor is stone in my barn. It wouldn't be good if the seven ballls wents dropping out onto the rocks!
