How's this quote for a tune-up?
I drive a wrecker part time aside from my LE job. The shop I work for is a full-service towing, recovery, and auto-care center. After the transmission debacle in the other post, my boss and another mechanic noticed my serpentine belt and pully was worn. I mentioned the mileage and the fact it ran like crap. They suggested what I've been putting off forever, which is a full tune-up.
I have to go pull this money from the bank to get this done. It's going to be about $500-$700 to do complete tune-up with AC-Delco parts, get the front differential leak fixed, replace the serpentine belt and idler pulley, and possibly get the coolant flushed. Since I work there, they said they would "work with" me on the price. This is probably the same as what the dealer would cost, maybe a little less. Sound reasonable?

No, do it yourself and spend about 150 on parts and save the extra money! Seriously, I cannot think that this would cost that much

I priced the parts at around $250 minimum. After the idiotic transmission experiance, I have no desire whatsoever to work on this truck myself again.

Can you break it down in dollars per hour? Changing the serpentine belt and tensioner takes about 1/2 hour, coolant flush 1 hour, tune-up 2 hours (depending on what's done), diff leak????? What needs to be done to repair the diff leak? Is it just the pinion oil seal 1 hour.
So if it's 5 hour work and they can do it for $500, parts included (delco), that doesn't sound to bad to me.
So if you trust them and you want it done quicker than you can do it yourself and you have the money, why not have it done for you.
Mind you, when I read about one of us spilling oil on themselves, I have to smile, as It brings back so many memories of my own experiences.
