Default Security and Dome Lights

Hi. I'm new to this forum. It looks really good.
I'm having a problem with my 2000 Jimmy. The security light on the dash and the dome will not turn off. Also, the driver side door will not stay locked when I use the switch on the door. Also, the radio shuts off immediately when the ignition is turned off even before I open the doors. (It used to continue playing for about 10 minutes if the doors were not opened).
Anyone know what might cause this? Also, in addition to the jamb switch is there a switch on the door latch? Thanks.

It looks like a retained accessory power problem.
The BCM commands the RAP relay to turn ON by grounding CKT 755. This action is completed when all of the doors are closed and the ignition and start switch is turned to the OFF position. Once the RAP relay is energized, the accessories remain operational until any one of the following conditions exists:

The 20 minute timer elapses.
The driver/passenger door is opened.
The door handle switch is activated.
The ignition and start switch is activated.
The lift glass jamb switch is activated (utility only).

I'll have a look at the circuits and see if I can come up with something

Ok, start by checking the RAP fuse ( 50 amp maxi fuse ) in the underhood fuse block. If it's ok, then it gets tougher: as in front driver and passenger door handle and jam switches, RAP timer relay, wiring etc.
Start with the fuse....maybe get lucky

Thanks for the fast reply. I checked the RAP fuse under the hood and it is OK. Maybe the problem is with a door handle switch. I plan on removing the door trim panels tomorrow. Btw, I did a search on this site for this problem and found very little.

I've read a lot of posts since I became a member and I don't recall seeing anyone else with this problem so far.
Keep us posted, we'll help if we can.

Check the door open switch. My 96 would intermitantly turn on the interior lights when driving and the door open buzzer would sound. When I removed it I found it all green and rusted. Most dealers have them for about 5 bucks.

Is that the jamb switch or the switch in the door latch mechanism?

For me it was the switch in the jam. Would keep sending a signal the drivers door was open.

Had to take the dash apart to get it out but was done in less than an hour. Not sure on your model.

Well the problem turned out to be the right rear jamb switch. Replaced the switch and everything is fine now. Thanks for the help.
