Hey blazin guys

I have a very difficult question for those of you that think they know everything or a lot about Chevy Blazers!

Can I do a auto to manual transmission swap? I know that there is 5-speed 2D blazers out there and I have the automatic 2D blazer, and I love my blazer...just the STUPID auto tranny is KILLING ME (it works fine I just hate auto)...if only I could have a 5-speed blazer

Any thoughts???


Oh, if anyone has a 5-speed blazer, could you please send me some pictures of it under the hood and under the dash so I could compare with mine and see if it is possible?

How about some pictures, can someone with a manual transmission upload some pics of the clutch pedal (where it goes under the hood from under the dashboard) and under the hood of the clutch cylinder? Please?

I have both a couple of automatics and a stick with five speed. I do not NOW know what engine/trans you are dealing with. Is it an older 2.8, 2.2. 2.5, with auto or a 4.3? I do not have the 4.3 in stick, so how it sets up, I do not know. Will soon do a 4.3 with four speed though. Old, I believe, lots of welding of linkage and stuff???

I own an old s10 truck with 2.5 four and a 5 speed. The truck is an 89. Have no idea what year engine and tranny are. Yes truck was stick to begin with but the whole drivetrain has since been changed out, Engine, tranny, rear, all different.

Anyway, the stick on this one has clutch that is hydraulic. So the simplistic answer is that if you have the hydraulic parts to go with the stick, bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate and fork plus all misc other parts, then the pedal mounting isnt hard to deal with. Remove all this stuff from a donor car and install it.

I'll say this though. If you are willing to set this vehicle down and plan on not driving it fer a month or 6 weeks then you'll be fine. I just know that most can do this a whole lot faster, but when working on your own and not for bundles of money you will not be as fast. All you'll be doing is SPENDING and trying to figure out how to spend as little as possible without building something that will break down soon.

One warning, if you're looking at purchasing from e-bay or something. remember all the little parts that no-one will sell you cause its hard to unload this stuff. I see transmissions, without bell housings. Bell housings by themselves. Clutches and pressure plates by themselves. YOU need them all at once. Remeber that. Pay one price and get EVERYTHING. Otherwise you'll be nickled and dimed to .....

A good for-instance is that a new clutch and pressure plate OUGHT to be installed. I would install a heavy duty aftermarket one and pay close attention to good quality equipment right there. No-one wants to take this apart again once its adjusted and working correctly.

To be honest, uploading a picture of that cute little master cylinder for the hydraulic fluid is not a neccesity. It sit by the master brake cylinder. Its no more than 2 1/2 inches across and 3 1/2 tall and cylindrical with a rubber cap for filling with DOT3. Line runs from it just like the brakes. The rest is really not able to be photographed unless taken apart. At least not for me.

Thought I would add this. Look carefully at pedal arrangement on donor car. On older trucks I have had experience with, the brake pedal was different on some models as compared to automatics. The pedals for brake and cluctch were sorta in pairs but I have not done an s`10 model YET. Perhaps some other posters can help us both here.

 

I was thinking about do this swap also and I figure the best way would be to go to the junkyard and find a wrecked s-10 with the 4.3 5 speed set-up and rob it of it's pedal set-up, lines, hoses, tranny and crossmembers, shifters and other interor pieces.....thats for my 96 tho I don't know what year you have

 

To be honest, I am thinking seriously about starting a frame up build from an s10 frame for a rod body of some sort. What my tranny question is: How many 5 speed 4.3 cars/trucks, are actually available as donor cars. Or would it actually be easier to find 4 speed rigs left over from earlier models than the s10's.

For the 2.8 things are fairly easy. Many camaro parts, many 4 cylinder parts. Then comes the question; camaro 305 parts? AHA perhaps. I do know the 350 couldnt possibly have ever gotten a 5 speed or 6 speed. So the donor is what, a camaro v8?


How many s10 blazers with 4.3 and stick do you think may be in junk yards these days. Heck I have no idea how many sticks were built with a 4.3. Have never seen one.

It would have been seriously against Chevrolet policy to do anything like this only the camaro was considerrred sporty enough and you can bet there was NEVER a four wheel drive built with 5 speed and 4.3.

Tell me I am crazy cause I'd like to find one myself.

There are tons of S-10 pickups with 4.3 V6s and 5-speeds.

 

If you want decent info, you need to provide the basic information.

 

Hey; how about telling me where to find a stick, complete; for a 4.3 blazer. Or someone at least answer by some sort of method, approximarely how many of the blazers that are available for parts donor cars RIGHT now, would have stick shifts?

I am assuming there may well be a few model years. Was 89 the first 4.3? So from 89 to what? To 95 maybe?? 6 model years with 4.3's and how many were sticks? Anyone have some solid information or site for reference?

I will look a lot better if I get some solid info. But have not seen any within 50 miles of our home.

I am completely correct about donor camaros, only the 305 is a reasonable choise for 5 or 6 speeds. The 4th gen has a few 6 speeds that are good.

Had to add this. Yes I did go to that site. But I am looking for a DONOR car. One I could get near the same vintage as the one I am working on and for VERY LITTLE money. Know what I mean?
